**SPORE**

That's a shame-it could have been fantastic if, after entering the universe mode, you could go to other people's planets (sort of like Animal Crossing-but better!).

Supposedly other planets are populated with others creatures which it downloads in the background from sporepedia. You can see status reports of how your creatures are fairing in the other universes they have populated.

iwas only interested in the game cause i thought there would be thousands online and i can go more or less anywhere :( now if true your just playing against pc :( and designing monsters.

You can still explore a universe populated with other peoples designs. but yes you will only be playing pc..

Also blame EA >_>, not maxis for the DRM.

Or blame people for pirating games, if nobody did that DRM wouldn't be needed.

Though I do agree, its over the top and just punishes those who do pay for it.

I need to read up on this game because I cant quite understand what would be so good about it, but people seem pretty excited.

bah what a load of gash, no mp! cancels order, oh well.

It was originally going to have MP like you imagine but I think they re-thought and changed it ages ago.

The reason they gave was if you spend ages evolving your creature and then you come back to the game to find your city/planet/solar system has been destroyed by a more advanced race, you would be pretty annoyed.

Got to agree with everyone, the DRM just annoys the people who buy it. The people who download it will just replace a few files. Job done.

I haven't pre-ordered it yet but I will be buying it, been following the dam thing since 05.

Don't agree with the piracy comments it's just pushing people to piracy by using stupid methods such as DRM / SecuROM / Safedisk / etc. If they lowered the prices (which they're never going to do because they'll say piracy is costing them money so they have to up the prices even though if they released a product for say £15 instead of £40 they would make a hell of a lot more money as more people would be able to bye it) more people could enjoy it.

I just cringe now everytime I install a new game (in fact it's gotten so bad I have to check what protection it's using before I buy a game so to make sure it doesn't install rootkits and all the other crap associated with it) when really I should be looking forward to playing it.

Spore does seem to be good - it's like the first blockbuster game we've had released on the PC in ages and hopefully is the start of some good quality games for the PC. I'm not really bothered about the MP as that could be a nightmare unless you have some kind of skirmish mode.

I’m not really convinced by the piracy is because of high prices argument. Even at £15 I still think a lot of people would download it because free is still better than £15, and if a game is good I don’t think £30 is a bad price anyway. DVDs are about half the price they used to be yet people still copy them.

But the measures they put in place are rather pointless as people get around them anyway.

I guess that makes sense, but surely they could have done it so you kinda take your race planet or whatever into this MP world for some MP fun if you want to, but leave it safe and intact elsewhere, sort of like making a copy of it to play in the MP world.

Surely pirating this would be a pain in the arse? Presumably you'll have to authenticate with a server to get all the user created content.

Did any one else catch the interview with Will Wright on BBC Click? He was basically saying how the user created content (i.e. creatures) sharing is doing a load of the creative work for them. He also said that ,in terms of graphics, they couldn't of released two years ago but that by todays standards the game isn't graphically demanding.

Piracy is because of high prices and poor quality releases.

If everything was a brilliant game with great online multiplayer abilities then I could see piracy dropping. People normally download games they're thinking about buying then play it and if it's rubbish don't get it or if it's good then they get it or wait until it's on budget and get it.

You have to remember you don't see this much protection on consoles where there is a massive piracy market (PSP / XBox 360 and PS3) so why should PC users suffer for that?

Well I imagine you could download packs. But most people will want to play the basic game and won't be bothered by other peoples creations. I would want the highest graphically good creatures rather than some muppets poor creations.
