This release (from what we've seen so far) is about improving performance and tweaking the UI to make it more usable. Not going to be totally different from Vista though.

Any release before a public beta would need to be obtained from torrent sites and is likely to be a bit pointless for us normal users as none of the funky graphical stuff is in them.

Just wait for the public beta. It will most likely be on MS Connect http://connect.microsoft.com/ Thats where the Vista ones were.

Well if that's all they're doing, couldn't they just patch Vista rather than asking people to fork out money for a whole new OS?

Well there's more to Windows 7 than performance and UI improvements, but the focus is on those two.

The new taskbar looks terrible. Everything in general looks a little bigger and a little more ott. Apart from that its basically the same as Vista.

cant imagine it will manage resources any better

the problem we have is - all the vista haters who decided to skip a step and wait for W7 are going to have waited 3 more years for what is essentially a tweaked version of vista

I'm assuming a lot of the UI stuff will change - seeing as MS always/usually use the previous UI as a 'base' when working on the next Windows version......... right?

I hope so anyway, as i'm not too keen on the Vista look!

They are releasing both 32 and 64bit version of 'Seven'.

Try reading some of the links I've posted or watch the videos. It's more than a new taskbar and the main focus of this release is performace and they showed it running on a Netbook (the M3 build with nothing changed).
