Far cry 2 - cant get into it!

Its nothing to do with what crytek were making. It was simply to do with the fact that crytek were bought by EA but the rights to the name 'farcry' were owned by Ubisoft. Crysis is the 'real' successor to farcry in the eyes of crytek as they had lost the rights to the original name they had to call it something else, farcry 2 is a name used for marketing only.

EA didnt buy crytek, Ubisoft bought all right to the farcry brand and Crytek simply switch publisher.

Clearly not to some, many people still draw comparisons of it to its predecessors, many also are shocked to hear that the makers of farcry had nothing to do with this title.
I guess, just assumed that people into gaming enough to post on message boards would know stuff like this.

You're right tbh, they should, but try reading through the PC gaming thread around the moment the game was released, 50% of people were complaining of it being nothing like farcry, how the graphics were pants etc etc. Took about two days for many to take in the whole crytek thing.

I play it every day for several hours, IMO it's the best graphical game i've played to date. I agree that the storyline is a tad weak also the to and fro'ing on missions and the respawning of the malitia, constant jeep attacks after just thrashing one jeep 3 mins prior, seriously uneeded. That aside, it's a joy to play on a visual aspect.

I can't understand all the animosity towards it. Personally I really like it. A lot.

It's the best looking game out on consoles until Gears of War 2 arrives, the sound is fantastic, the location is great (and different), there is loads to do, the combat is tough, plenty of weapons, the buddy system and weapon jams add something different, then on top of all that the map editor is another level for console gaming - it's up there with any WYSIWYG level editor out there, if not better.

I played it last week (PC and 360 versions). tbh It didn't look better than any every console game (And tbh the PC version did not look much better than the 360 version, but I had no control over the PC settings). I thought COD4 had better graphics.

Agree about the looks, really is a nice looking game and very impressive on the 360.

Was thinking of getting this, but will probably avoid now. The only good thing I've read about it are the nice visuals - and that a game maketh not!

Graphically the environments, effects (water, weather, fog, fire and smoke) are the best I've seen over something that scale by a long, long way. If people are saying it's bad looking they need their eyes tested.

The only thing that's very disappointing is the character models.

It's without a doubt the best daylight system cycle in a game too.

It's a shame though that developers all too often seem to fail when it comes to getting both the graphics & gameplay just right. There really isn't much point in a visually stunning game if the gameplay/story suck.

Personally I'd also classify the original Far Cry & Crysis in this category. They both seemed more like lengthy tech demos, rather than games to me.
