Need some advice ocuk!

Before I start, I know I'm incredibly stupid and naive!

I saw a car I liked for a price I was prepared to pay, hunted the net for days on end looking for insurance and managed to find a quote at just over £1K, my cheapest yet. So, I went to the dealer(Arnold Clark) and after trying out a couple of cars and having a good look around I decided to take the car I liked in the first place. Without any haggling whatsoever, I just wasn't thinking. I signed and put a small deposit down.

Got home and phoned the insurance broker only to find out the insurer thought I was a she. upon correcting she bumped £1k onto the premium.

I now cannot find an affordable quote. Due to me paying my deposit and signing for the car, am I legally required to pay the full amount? Or, will I just lose the deposit?

Really stuck here.

I don't mind about the deposit it's the signature that i'm worried about incase I'm legally bound to purchasing that car.

I also found a cheaper version at another dealership for 800 quid less.

I suspect a quiet word about your situation should see it all sorted. You have paid a deposit so might loose that, but again a sensible dealer will probably look after you on that too. There are plenty of people who put a deposit down on a car then pull out because they can't afford it after further investigation.

You should be fine.

Can't see there being any problems, a deposit just reserves the car for you - tell them the situation, they will take the deposit and put the car back up for sell:)

They added £1k onto insurance on a clio because your male?

That's what the girl said on the phone.

Initial quote came in at between £1000-£1100(I don't think this included interest for paying monthly) which along with paying the car I could just manage.

Then she said sorry we've got the wrong gender down and the overall quote(for paying monthly, including interest) came out at nearer £2000.

The cheapest quote I can get for a clio is £1500 from Money Supermarket, that's with policies4less, which don't have any ratings or reviews.

Edit: Apologies, just checked again, it's actually £1628 from policies4less.

Use Bell.co.uk on a FlexiBell policy and add anyone who is about 50 and female as a named driver. Be optimisticly low with the mileage. Increase your excess if you can.

That sucks. Perhaps you could explain your situation to the dealer and say despite this you'd maybe still be interested in the car or another (pending your insurance situation) and they may be nice and let you have the deposit back. Sooner rather than later though, definitely.
