Good point, the only difference was that Obama got even more of them out to vote, which pushed his percentage even higher. And in the white vote he was also ahead on the 18:30 bracket. Which in all likelihood has less people put off voting for a black man. Anyone, have elderly relatives who are a bit racist? Unfortunately it's just the way they were brought up.
The polls and statistic shows that the 18-30s and the college educated section leaned towards democrats this time, it shows that the new generations are more opened to his policies than the older genearations and statistically too, lesser of the older genrations went to universities.
In addition to why Obama won, i think we also should look at why McCain lost as well. He did as much harm to his own failings than Obama did to victory.
Part of that failing is purely because he is associated with Bush, that much he cannot escape from. He backed the Iraq war where Obama opposed it, he can't change that fact and he certainly lost some votes because of it. Secondly the down turn in the economy had a big impact on his voting numbers, specially for the independants, those that don't side with either parties and vote purely on the candidate's policies and what they stand for took the down turn of the economy as a reason to vote for change of Government. This is also where McCain fell short, during the initial big crashes of the market, at the time where Lehmann Bros fell, McCain shifts his stands so many times in the issue it gave the impression that he doesn't know what he was doing. Where in the Obama camp it was firm on its stands and on the outside it gave an feeling of calm and almost presidential like aura to the voters.
Then there is the running mate, where Obama picked a experience Senator who has 30 years + in office experience to make up the short fall of his 4 years in the US Senate (8 years as State Senator). McCain went the opposite way by picking a pitbull with a lipstick. At the start she certainly gave him a lot of the support that he didn't have, from women to old horny men. Then in time (when the press got hold of her) her lack of a brain upstairs and her lack of experience really shows, this also coincides with the fall of the financial market too so her initial impact was suddenly taken away. Palin on 1 hand brought in voters, she also drove away many Republicans because the thought of her as a VP is just unthinkable, if McCain is driving the message that Obama is inexperienced, what is Palin?
and I haven't even mention about the money spent by both parties yet !
