US ELECTION RESULTS THREAD...

Yes. Its such a shame, and so incredibly shocking, that a minority group with a history of discrimination might have something more important to them than policy.

not shocking, but it's actually a shame if they chose him for that reason, as if he turns out to be inferior all they have done is worsen their lives even further.

McCain should have chosen a female black VP to stand any chance. :p

It's sad but the majority of African American's will have voted for Obama simply to see a black president.

Historically, African Americans have always voted Domorcats, regardless who is their candidate, Clinton had around 85% of the black votes and John Kerry had around 88% of the Black votes, unless I am mistaken and something Clinton and Kerry isn't telling us, they are both white.

African Americans do not just vote for Obama because he is black, although no doubt there has been some have voted because of that, so would the some white Republicans who voted for McCain because the Democrats has a Black Candidates. The majority of African Americans voted (at least 85% - Clinton numbers) voted for Democrats because they always votes for Democrats not because Obama is black.

Good point, the only difference was that Obama got even more of them out to vote, which pushed his percentage even higher. And in the white vote he was also ahead on the 18:30 bracket. Which in all likelihood has less people put off voting for a black man. Anyone, have elderly relatives who are a bit racist? Unfortunately it's just the way they were brought up.

Great winning speech I saw on youtube..

Lets hope he lives up to the expectations placed upon him.
Although I bet getting the CIA briefing probably took the smile off his face sadly

Typical black man though, give him a job and he can't start for 2 months...

Tongue firmly planted in cheek.....

The polls and statistic shows that the 18-30s and the college educated section leaned towards democrats this time, it shows that the new generations are more opened to his policies than the older genearations and statistically too, lesser of the older genrations went to universities.

In addition to why Obama won, i think we also should look at why McCain lost as well. He did as much harm to his own failings than Obama did to victory.

Part of that failing is purely because he is associated with Bush, that much he cannot escape from. He backed the Iraq war where Obama opposed it, he can't change that fact and he certainly lost some votes because of it. Secondly the down turn in the economy had a big impact on his voting numbers, specially for the independants, those that don't side with either parties and vote purely on the candidate's policies and what they stand for took the down turn of the economy as a reason to vote for change of Government. This is also where McCain fell short, during the initial big crashes of the market, at the time where Lehmann Bros fell, McCain shifts his stands so many times in the issue it gave the impression that he doesn't know what he was doing. Where in the Obama camp it was firm on its stands and on the outside it gave an feeling of calm and almost presidential like aura to the voters.

Then there is the running mate, where Obama picked a experience Senator who has 30 years + in office experience to make up the short fall of his 4 years in the US Senate (8 years as State Senator). McCain went the opposite way by picking a pitbull with a lipstick. At the start she certainly gave him a lot of the support that he didn't have, from women to old horny men. Then in time (when the press got hold of her) her lack of a brain upstairs and her lack of experience really shows, this also coincides with the fall of the financial market too so her initial impact was suddenly taken away. Palin on 1 hand brought in voters, she also drove away many Republicans because the thought of her as a VP is just unthinkable, if McCain is driving the message that Obama is inexperienced, what is Palin?

and I haven't even mention about the money spent by both parties yet !

No, no it doesn't far far from it.

To derive that from that mere statistic is an insane amount of guess work, and thoroughly worthless.

ok, may be open is the wrong word, but Persuaded.

"it shows that the new generations are more persuaded towards his policies than the older genearations and statistically too, lesser of the older genrations went to universities.

In short, older generations and stuck in their own ways and unwilling to accept change, there, i've said it :p it is a known fact that younger people are more perceptible and easiler to be pursuaded than older people.

I do also think that the more educuated have voted for him this time round because his policies are more solid than McCain's, watch the debates and the answers given by both Candidates, Obama's are more well thought out, more structured which i would think if you look past the skin colour, one would appreciate.

or young people are more naive, and more easily lead, and lacking in experience?

Quite frankly, they are the ones who are going to have to live with the fallout.

Half the racist old biddies that voted McCain will be dead before they feel the effects, and they don't really care either sitting on their nest eggs...

It only takes 10 mins to browse various news sites to see the reaction photo galleries around the world about Obama’s win.

Look at how happy the world is. Do you really think the same would be happening if McCain won? Sure maybe if his campaign runners were a bit smarter and his choice of VP was more well thought out but as it stands, not a chance.

Exactly, unless all the world is full of racist black people it seems his is the more popular choice. Even on this forum we all voted Obama and I imagine most people on here are white and reasonably well off.
