Samsung NC10

Hi,

Just done the swap.

The drive that came out was an Hitachi, model:HTS543216L9A300. 5400RPM,sata-3gB/S.

The drive that went in was one of these...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... 7200RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (WD3200BEKT)

So far...Im not really seeing an improvement... If anyone has a free program to benchmark a hard disk let me know and then we can compare this to a standard.

It seems louder, also, Heat and vibration can be felt through the palm rest, even in silent mode. I dont recall that with the original.

I think it will be back to the standard one in a few days.

so how easy was it? in the video they say need a little force, is there enough force you might break some bits or jsut hard to get apart.
i was thinking doing the same swap to the 320gb might just do 250gb tho

Mostly, its quite easy.

Remove all the screws (14) then i used a mobile phone top up card to seperate then sides and the front edge.

The only tricky bit is the back and round the hinges. I got a fingernail in to open it up, the got the phone card in to open and unclip it.

Hard to descibe, but you`ll see if you try it.

Is it worth it?

If you NEED the extra space, then yes.

If you have a faster, larger 2.5 inch HD doing nothing, then probably.

Would I go out and buy a 2.5 HD to do it? No, not enough of a gain so far considering its hotter and louder.

EDIT: If you havnt done this before and wonder what im on about with the phone card have a look at this vid. It on an Acer Aspire, but at 3mins 38 he splits it like you have to with the Samsung.

Mainly curious about memory. The Samsung site quote its 800Mhz but other sites have mentioned 533 or 667. Not for overclocking if thats what you're thinking.

Installing Vista on Samsung NC10

I got my white NC10 from Overclockers a week ago and am very pleased with it. I mentioned on the Unofficial NC10 forum that I'm running Vista and was asked how I found installing it. As the forum doesn't have many users at the moment, I thought I'd post my reply here too. I hope someone finds it useful. :)

Vista install was easy. All it took was a Computer Scientist housemate and a USB stick. I'd imagine the vista install process isn't too radically different to on other netbooks, and there are plenty of guides for doing so online as it is. Like this one:

My housemate followed basically the same procedure but without vlite.

A surprisingly easy place to find all the Vista drivers is the support page for the Gigabyte M912 tablet PC. It's got the same processor, chipset, touchpad and wireless card as the NC10 (and most of the other netbooks on the market) but has an option for pre-installed Vista, which means that pretty much all the latest vista drivers your NC10 could need are on its support page. I was tipped off to this by my aforementioned housemate, who owns an M912 and is dead jealous of my NC10's keyboard and battery.

I should have known there would be a juicy NC10 thread over here! I look forward to reading through and find out what peeps have been up to! I got my NC10 last week and have been posting some stuff up on a Samsung NC10 blog. I think someone must have linked to it already as I can see overclockers in the referral stats.

Must say Ive had a totally positive experience so far and have been very pleased with this little "toy". I even find myself using it at home over my desktop machine!

I'm seriously considering one these however one thing concerns me, do any of these UK models have the 3G sim card options? And are any high street (instore) shops selling these yet so I could get one today?

Thanks for the useful info! (No, I dont have the infamous picture but I do like it!)
As long as your mate wasnt a rocket scientist then thats ok. I was curious about vista drivers so its good to know the M912 drivers work. Funny how Gigabyte openly quote Vista support but Samsung dont mention it.

Just got mine (black) an hour ago from a high street retailer for £299 got a case for it and a 2GB flash drive for £20 while I was there. Noticed a lot of people interested in these, only had 1 left when I had got mine. What would be the best way for me to get my songs on here then seeing as it doesn't have a DVD drive?

If you search back, Im sure on of the OCUK staff asked the samsung rep, and there will be a 3g enabled one in "a few months".

Im on "3", and use Nokia PC suite with the NC10 bluetooth to use it to connect.

With your new 2GB flash drive... or get a portable DVD or HDD as your next purchase. Sooner or later you will need one for backups/reinstalls.

Cheers mate, so basically you could use your phone's bluetooth to connect to the net that way? So when I'm travelling I can get online that way?
