Grand Theft Auto 4

Has anyone got a simlilar spec to me (E2140@3GHZ, 2 GIG RAM, 8800GT 512MB)?

If so how does it run? Is it even playable on medium? What are the graphics like?

Many thanks in advance.

Pah - just tried to install it and Disc2 just won't read (tried it on 2 different machines) - DVD drive just seeks and then the disc appears to have no files on it.

No scratches or anything - any ideas ?

Understood - I don't mean 320meg is too little per se to run at that resolution, just that GTA has bloated hardware requirements.

Yep, that's what I'm moaning about really.

I would be happy to get 2GB more RAM but I've heard so many problems with using 4GB of RAM in 4 slots on my motherboard (Asus P5N-E SLi) that it doesn't seem worth it.

New graphics card seems a bit much for just one game too (baring in mind it plays the above 3 very well), so I'm not going there.

Today. I had to ask for it, this is a far cry from the 50 person queue at the supermarket for the 360 version.

Brings back memories. Diving in my car with all my mates and doing a mini road trip to the closest ASDA 24hr store, then eating diddy doughnuts whilst sat on the shop floor waiting for the game :p

I was looking at getting a NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB SLI PCI Express Graphics Card - Retail with PhysX, CUDA & 3D Stereo

But then this looks like it could be a waste of money if it's not man enough....

I didn't want to spend £200+ :( but may have to.

Q6600 with 8GB RAM otherwise

Do what I did and get shot for something like a P35C DS3R, or sell your 2GB ram and get 2x 2GB.

OT but I have the same mobo and did this upgrade to 4gb recently. Now that the updated bios is available that's all you have to do before fitting the new mem I found. Before I did the bios update it wouldn't boot.

Would the game utilise your system RAM as extra video RAM though?

What an absolute load of crap. There is no reason the game couldn't have been made to run perfectly on modern PCs.

Do you know whats worse about it? By the time the future PC's are out, why will we playing GTA4 on them? It's like Crysis. I now have a system that will mince Crysis.

But I completed it over a year ago so I don't care.

Why do developers constantly miss this point?

Crysis, DX10, 1680x1050 or higher, Very High, 8xAA? If you system can mince Crysis then you'll be doing 40+fps lol.

Bit of an expensive upgrade though, and I wouldn't get a great deal of money back from selling my RAM I don't think.

I've got BIOS 1301 I think, but I've already got 2GB of OCZ memory which is apparently a pain to set up....

Probably not but it can't hurt and I've been thinking about it for a while.... (though to be fair every time I try and find comparisons between 2GB and 4GB there's not much difference in games performance, it only seems to be when people start alt-tabbing out and stuff that it matters).

Right, ermmm, anyway, so GTA IV, I'm off to experiment a little now. I'll probably just end up playing it with black borders on my screen and 1:1 pixel mapping.
