Grand Theft Auto 4

@ AWPC: Thanks again. I'll go out and get it then. Hope I don't run into any of the problems mentioned here. Can't believe what R* is up to, talk about punishing the honest while not really acomplishing anything.

By the way, I came across a R* interview a few days back, claiming that if *coughs* were used, the game would appear to run normally, but do really screwy things after a while. Anyone run into this yet? Probably a bit like The Settlers 4, where the 'liberated' copies had windmills producing boats all of a sudden.

Yeah apparently there's a weird camera effect etc when using cracks.

Still, i run all current games on my 1950Xt 256mb except for this one which I can't run higher than 1152x848 or something similar which makes me doubt how much rockstar deserved my money!

Yes thats exactly what happened to people that used the *cough* however the latest *cough* fixed all that and more :)

That was the case with the first *cough* where Niko was always drunk, but that has since been fixed, with a new *cough*.

Whats with all the coughing around here, this place is contagious.

Nothing beats MTA SA

See people complain about people on about graphics over gameplay, well unfortunatly with all games (GTA IV included) recently it is the best thing about them, I do feel GTA IV is lacking compared to GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas, GTA SA is awesome especially online (I miss Hay 100LVL :( ), I also like the mods and the GTA SA graphics engine really has some potential I think. Look at some of the car mods and all that they look awesome (better than GTA IV).

I cant play this game. I have an 8800gt with 180.48 drivers. I am running vista 64. The starts to play ok then the graphics start to rock. Its like being on a ship in gale force winds. Does any1 else have this problem. If so is there a solution?

They do if you know how to control them:p

Its not about being able to control them. I'm using the 360 pad with the triggers for brakes and accelerater. Even though I have analogue control if I pull the brakes on genlty they lockup straight away. And this is me driving carefully and slowly, and its still doesn't go round the corner. Despite this though I still love the game. The amount of detail is amazing and the cars look awesome. I love that even though a car is locked you can smash your way in now. I gonna have a lot of fun making massive pile ups and editing them into action packed videos :D

Its possible but you will lose the ability to save progress with your Windows LIVE online account so need to create an offline one as well and switch between the 2 otherwise you will have to play offline from the start of the game again. Obviously the online features will be unavailable as well if not connected.

I think with Fo3 you had two directories one with online saves and one with offline saves. I think you can just copy one to the other and they work either way.

Its amazing people are completing this so quickly, I have the PS3 version and have put 110 hours so far into it and I'm only 75% done.

It took me ages to complete SA. That wasn't even trying to get the 100% complete on the menu. The car jacking side mission towards the end where you have a blackboard like on Gone on 60 seconds, took me about 2 days to complete :D Great ongoing mission though. My eyes lit up when I stopped to a hault to try and jack a very rare car. Once you get in and its the wrong one... argh!

can any1 here get on an MTA:SA Race server, since the update to v1.1.2 i have never been able to get a server list in game nor does manual join work :(

EDIT: dosn't matter its working again now just fresh installed it from site

Yeah it works with Fallout 3 but with some LIVE games like Gears Of War you lose the saves if you go offline from LIVE unless you use an offline profile. Depends how they have implemented it. You can copy GTA saves anyway just dump them into the folder and your good to go as it would appear it stores them locally on the PC in a generic saves folder but if you want to update the LIVE aspects it would need to be logged in to do so (better system than Gears Of War as it was not uncommon to lose all your saves as those geniuses @ Epic decided to host them but forgot to manage it properly then abandoned the game after comlaining about piracy & low sales when the biggest issue was it took too long to come out so most people had played it to death on the 360!! PC version still rules though.).

I get the impression the graphics card is largely meaningless in this game. One of the guys in the Benchmark thread got the same score as me with an 8800GTX and the same CPU as me..
I think a 2GB graphics card is needed to play this game with everything on high. I can run the benchmark with everything maxed out with decent fps but then get the error about not having enough Video Memory.

I think more optimization is needed to run this on high before even thinking of GPU memory amount.
