Just put a deposit down on a New car!

Are you saying that when we get more available funds we'll buy brand new Fiesta diesels to 'save money'?

You might not but some people will. People like the new owner experience and to some the fact they will pay 11k for one is of little matter if its what they want.

How can you possibly not regret buying your A3 after the complete disaster its ownership experience turned out to be? Do you really think it was a better experience than the used 5 Series you replaced it with?

No it wasnt a good experience but its done, its what we wanted and it turned to poo. I wouldnt buy another Audi again but I dont regret buying that one, it taught me a lesson about how crap they have become since my old 100. Ive ended up with a much better car anyway.

Another OCUK new car thread delivers.

Ends in the same way though, but I'm just going to sit back and enjoy :D

No you wont.

a) Will you be driving around in a 160,000 mile Fiesta in 5-7 years time? I suspect not.

b) If you are, does this not go against all your reasons for buying new, given it will have variable running costs and no warranty etc

Quite clearly we should Burn the witch!

How dare he not agree with the masses.

Great work telling him what he will and will not do...

He will have fixed costs for a certain number of years which is what he is looking for. The car won't suddenly fall to pieces after this (probably) so there should be no hidden pitfalls like you may encouter with a second hand car.

Sensible is not always the way people buy things or else OCUK would not exist.Sometimes people want a new car, appreciate they will usually take a hit and that its far from a solid use of their money but you know what it feels nice and though that soon wears off its still something many people do, usually for silly reasons but we are all different and if you can afford it then who's to say you shouldn't. .

Can totally understand the "new car" thing but he's done this to try to save money. I think that's what most people can't quite get their heads around. Buying such a car to save money makes little sense.

Why are you posting? Seriously? What do you think the point in posting stuff like that is? This is a discussion forum about cars, we are discussing cars. The OP is quite capable of defending himself and has been a member of this forum for as a long as me. He knew exactly what the thread would turn into and its probably half the reason why he picked it.

Are cars bought new immune from problems which develop as they get (considerably) used then?

to a certain extent, yes, warranty i mean, 3 years convenient hassle free driving, i can't fault Fords warranty service, i got 2 years with my used Mondy, had the subframe replaced and a couple of other things too :)

Obviously, it doesn't cover wear and tear though (tyres etc). Still, i know where my 11.5k would have gone, certainly not a new Fez

What has the amount of time you've been posting got to do with it? I've been here about as long as you as well. (I rejoined late after the big nuke)

So you're saying he should only be able to defend himself while everyone else shouts him down? People aren't allowed to be on his side?

If you buy a car from new then... you know it's history.

You know exactly how it's been treated for it's whole life and can therefor have a much better understanding of what is likely to go wrong with it.

What has the amount of time you've been posting got to do with it?

It means he's not a newbie so he's sound thousands of threads like this and therefore knew which way this was going to go :)

So you're saying he should only be able to defend himself while everyone else shouts him down? People aren't allowed to be on his side?

You can be 'on his side' (oo lets take sides rather than discuss cars, how thrilling) if you want but serously, posting stuff like 'How dare he not agree with the masses' is just pointless. It adds nothing to the discussion. It's not even about cars and buying cars.

But he's going to keep it for 'many years' but put 25-30k a year on it. The Ford warranty isn't unlimited mileage and neither will they extend it beyond 3 years with 100k on it.

Also remember he's bought this car to 'save money'.

Fair enough, I just find it irritating that other people just post "lolz idiot" type comments (not you). Because someone doesn't follow the norm doesn't mean they should be made to feel stupid.

I agree on that. Posting 'lolz idiot' is pointless and ridiculous and adds even less to the debate than your contribution. If you disagree with the OP then great but please do take the trouble to explain why and backup your opinions. And on the flip side, if you agree with the OP, great, but again, explain why and backup your opinions :)

I'm no car dealer or expert, and I certainly don't have the knowledge people on here routinely demonstrate, but 11k on a Fiesta seems mad to me.

You tout its MPG and reliability as if its going to save you money, but you have just spend £11k! Now just quickly, surely something like this

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/606236.htm

that costs almost half that, would save you an awful lot more than you will running the fiesta and be a much nicer place to be? Say you were to put the 6ish k saving you made (im sure you could get a decent car in this range for £5k with negotiation) in an ISA?

My post earlier is still yet to be refuted and, if infallible (which im sure its not) kind of shows what a silly idea it was.

Just because someone doesn't follow the norm doesn't mean posts like that occur, people are called idiots on here when they do something idiotic, not because they do something that most people wouldn't.

I think we are all missing the one thing that will offset all of the depreciation ....

... New Car Smell ! ( And not the rubbish kind magic trees apparently smell of ) :D

Is this car on Ford options. When i got the mk6 when that was released i got 2 years use 24k mile allowance and 1 years free insurance and breakdown cover for £200 a month. Coming from a 1.3l Escort! I then could pay off the remaining balance, trade in which i did or hand it back. Okay not the most economical way of motoring but stress free as i would have had to get a loan for another car anyhow as the Escorts head gasket had gone and burnt oil quicker the a M54 engined beemer :D

Thanks for all the replies.

I think I should start by refuting the 'buying a new car to save money' argument. I'm buying a new car because I'm fed up of second hand cars and want something brand new, build to my exact specifications.

I've chosen to buy an efficient diesel because it will make it cheaper to run.

If I was buying with my funny hat on I'd of put a deposit on the fiat bravo I looked at. ;p

I'm glad at least a few people can see some logic in it. But ae fox says, I don't need defending. This is a place for open discussion. If I didn't expect that, I wouldn't of posted. Threads where everyone says 'nice car' are dull anyway.

All of this could be resolved by buying a decent 2nd hand car that doesn't cost the earth to run though. That is why people can't see the logic of your ways.

I can't argue with the whole concept of wanting a brand spanking new car. Yes financially its almost always a bad decision as it'll shed money through depreciation like crazy (says the guy who has a worthless vRS that I spent £6.5k on 17 months ago) and yes buying something used will get you a £xx,xxx car for £x,xxx. Yet I can still understand why someone would want to get something brand spanking new from the showroom.

...still wouldn't have been my choice though ;)

Would be good to see an owners view on it in a month or so's time because its on the possible list for when we finally stop talking about ditching the Polo and get something newer.
