Yes, it's THAT bad...my wallet could do without the serious pounding from updating to what looks like SP1 versions of applications for £69 EACH (granted, I get the HE Discount...but you know) :rolleyes:

The new features are good yes, but look over at what Google do with Picasa for FREE.

iTunes going all DRM-Free is good though...but again that's going to be a large dent in the cash to update 488 songs :(
 
Anyone else bitterly disappointed in the Keynote?

I was expecting (hoping) to buy either a new MacMini or even better, a new Macbook Mini (10" macbook).

Looks like my order for a HP Mini 700 will remain.

Also, who's to say Apple won't announce an update to the Mini next Tuesday now they've freed themselves of the pressure of predefined / allotted announcement updates a la MacWorld.
 
You don't need the latest iWork / iLife
You don't need to update your 488 songs

no one is forcing you to buy the updates ;)

Oh, and going to Windows won't help. In fact software for Windows is generally more expensive, as are the Windows operating systems.
 
I like how the new MBP is almost £2000 yet you have to pay an extra £15 to get that little plasticy remote that was previously free with everything, including the low-end MacBooks.
 
Wasn't in the market to buy anything so not that fussed.

I'm glad there wasn't a 32GB iPhone :p

The display on the new MBP sounds hot. 1920x1200, LED-backlit and non-glossy. (Assuming it's not a TN panel).

The 15" badly needs 1680x1050 to get in line.

I've had an epiphany.. let me explain.

They're pushing the iPhone / iPod Touch as the latest "remote". The keynote is the latest example of this with the Keynote remote app, as is the current remote application available for iTunes.

Why push a craptastic £15 white plastic remote (with a pants feature set and no lcd screen) when you can get people to use their spangly iDevices?

It's Apple's way of saving a few quid, which sucks, but I can see them going away from the little white block of poop.
 
Could the reason why MW 08 "sucked" be this?

I know that every Macworld gets hyped to hell and back and that usually it doesn't delivery on all the hype, but this time it really does seem to have missed the boat.

Is it reasonable to suspect that the lack of "huge" releases be a combination of the following...

1) Economic downturn. Yes, there are a lot of people that can afford Apple products regardless of worldwide financial situations but a larger percentage can not. It would be sensible to hold off the bigger products until the situation improves slightly and the chances of people buying your product are higher. You could argue that it's also reasonable to simply release the bigger products now and just let people buy them when they (eventually) have enough disposable income to spend on it. However, the following reason links into why it's not such a good idea to release them all now...

2) Lack of Steve Jobs' sales pitch. Even the most vehement of anti-apple users would agree that Jobs is capable of selling ice-cream to the eskimos. If Apple wanted to make a significant splash with a raft of new/updated hardware then they wouldn't do it without the main man. Now that he is currently away with hormonal problems that rules that out. No disrespect to Mr Schiller but if Apple wanted to do things right and make a big hit with the audicence then they would want the face of Apple to do it :)

I do, because i'm both a sucker for quality - despite my buying from the iTunes Store mainly on impulse - so having them all at 256Kbps is better...and I might want to put them on my PS3 or something.

This (Cheaper elseware) + This is all I would've bought in Windows software for the past 2.5 years - thus saving me A LOT :( Where on earth is Windows software more expensive?

I'll probably end up an all-iTunes-Plus-iLife '09-and-iWork '09-purchaser by tomorrow...

It's how I work haha

Decide I don't need something, then buy a whole suite. It happened with Aperture (albeit not a suite), didn't fancy the app but bought it anyway.

Good luck resisting it, anyway.
 
Having a pre-destined show like Macworld forces Apple to release something every January, regardless of if they want to or not.

By pulling out it gives Apple the choice to host their own events at the Apple campus. Not is this incredibly cheaper than buy floor space at random event halls, but they have total control over every little aspect (something Steve Jobs likes).

I'd say it's neither of the points you raised, but they simply didn't have much to release this year right now. Steve not being there was due to his ill-health, and giving Schiller big announcements for MacWorld was never going to happen.. I'd go so far as saying that Steve will be on-stage at the next Apple event with something big.

All that waffle over the battery in the 17" MBP trying to justify why it's not user removable.

I don't care that it's made out of Kryptonite, the cells are shaped like Steve Jobs's todger and it is charged by little magic pixies - if it develops a problem you've got to send the whole unit back.

Not a good move Apple - hope they don't add this "feature" to the remainder of the range as I'm hoping to grab a MB or MBP later on in the year.

The buyer's guide on Mac Rumors puts the iPhone as "Don't Buy" as it's passed the usual update/bump cycle, which would seem about right.

I just think Steve will want to be onstage if they're going to pimp the next iPhone with the illusive push notifications update. Whenever that may be :rolleyes:
 
Poor showing by Apple, imho. I was really hoping for some Snow Leopard action, but not a squeak, disappointing, seeing as it was their last Macworld. :'(

You can bet that most Apple stores will keep some kind of replacement, and be able to swap it over in under an hour via some special procedure.

It's sealed from the user, but I'm going to wait until iFixit.com tear one open as I have doubts they'd be so silly as to solder it on the the logicboard as there is no way I'd send a whole laptop off for a battery issue.
