And he still is without access after 5 days. He phoned the bank and said, "I have a habit, its called EATING". LOL.
Be very careful.![]()
^^^.
Be very careful, Metalface Mark. Last warning.
A colleague of mine from a previous job had this happen. Like the O.P. it was with HSBC as well.
He had two deposits of large amounts to his account, HSBC fraud picked it up and froze his account within hours.
His phone calls to the bank were a complete exercise in frustration for the guy. He was left unable to pay rent, food bills, electricity and everything (unfortunately for him the incident occurred at the end of the month just as all the bills came in.) it's bound to have impacted his credit score. People on the other end of the phone were unprepared to deal with him or explain how he could progress with the situation.
Visits to the bank were just as fruitless.
It's one very, very strong argument towards not keeping your money all in one bank, but splitting it between banks / building societies.
HSBC appear to be one of the worst banks out there for actually helping their customers.
A friend of mine is having to claim bankruptcy due to them applying charges for being over his overdraft every month, which he can't get out of. It started with him settling everything and being fine, and then they applied a late charge, throwing him over the overdraft, and since then spiralled further and further out of control.
Someone on the phone told him they'd freeze the charges....next month they charged him again. He called and they denied all knowledge. Branch visits, writing, speaking to managers....nothing.
He spoke to an expert regarding setting up a IVA, who said HSBC NEVER agree to them, and since they're his major debtor, he'd be best opting for bankruptcy. Since then he spoke to an actual solicitor who said the same.
Nice.
I once found £16m in my current account. I got very excited but it was just an admin error, tisk!
