Darkfall - Jan 22nd (maybe...)

I'd actually pay good money to see the average WoW player's face when someone knocks him out and steals all his equipment.

That'll be me then :D, Can't really say I'm looking forward to having all my gear stolen but It will be good fun playing a game that has consequences.

Its one of the things I miss most from UO :)

I was PK'ed so much in UO, yet strangely some of my best MMO moments over the last 10+ years have been from those PKs. There are players I have befriended in MMOs and raided against dungeon bosses with, players whose characters I cannot remember the names of.. but I can remember virtually every name of those people who PKed me in UO, and some of those encounters still stick in my mind as some of the best adrenalin filled MMO moments I've had.

I am hoping that DF might bring back some of that feeling of worry and trepidation about leaving a town to head into the "wilds" again, instead of just seeing an MMO death as a momentary interruption or a quick and harmless way to travel back to point A.

Still needs to be a good game as well as that factor though, and thats the part that I will be the most curious to see.

Ive been waiting for this aswell the world is kinda like eves online world but doesnt invovle internet crappy spaceships

I hope the world is as complex as it sounds ill defo be levling an archer aprently you can climb tress and stuff heh dunno if thats true though

Also im up for joining a ocuk guild starting in guild is always more fun

I dont really think so, I dont think DF was ever aimed at being a mass market MMO, its appeal is extremely limited to a specific MMO user type. The full loot FFA pvp was never going to appeal to the majority so I dont really see any detriment in having a subscription fee thats higher

you could say the same thing about eve-online yet its subscription remains inline with other games.

from what ive been hearing about darkfall the pvp wont be as hardcore as you think anyway aparently even in the wilderness they have started putting up the sentry tower things that kill pkers lol

Losing a set of GM made armour is not the same as losing a full T7 Naxx set. There are consequences, but they are not as harsh as a lot of carebears seem to think.

This games doesnt even look good enough to pay that amount of money for, not alone pay a subscription as well. What sort of mug would pay £40 for a game and then £10 per month apart from pizza lovers with nothing better to spend their money on.

Plus people say that its only the cost of pizza but what do you think you will be doing when you are playing this MMO game? Eating pizza maybe?

Or you could skip the eating and just get off with a fantasy over some female half elf that that you met on your travels who is in fact some 40 year old virgin called Jeff who still lives at home with his mum. (No offence to any Jeffs out there!)

Its probably best if a little research is done, the "sentry tower things that kill pkers lol" are placed only near racial banks and certain quest givers. They cover less than 1 percent of the map and you can see them from quite a distance. They're there so that noobs can do the first few quests without being constantly griefed. Seems to be fair enough to me, not really any different to the town guards in UO.

What's your point exactly, other than to insult everyone?

Hehe

To address your points individually,

I dont care particularly what an MMO looks like, UO looked god awful and wasnt even in 3d, yet was the best MMO I ever played (by a long long way). Regardless I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and try it myself before declaring that its good or bad, at least then I actually know from personal experience rather than hearsay or (heaven forbid) looks.

No, I wont be eating pizza while I play , because I dont eat food over my PC, I tend to sit together with my wife and kid for dinner.

I would hardly have to "skip" the eating and at least if he was 40 he would be my age :D

Snap! Methinks bloodline is either a pizza fanboi ("Dont diss my pizza dude!") or someone who consider super realistic eye candy as the epitome of gameplay. Perhaps this is why the game caters for the more experienced player interested in the experience, rather than the big explosions. Theres a lot of mention of UO and I suppose you have to not be in school anymore to actually remember that game.

Some of us arent 14 living off Mommys pocket money. £40 is nothing, £10 is below that - And if it recreates any of the brilliance of UO, its more than worth it.

I signed up last night and almost pre-ordered, the page kept crashing, now i've slept on it im not sure if i want to spend the money on it or not! Is there a definite release date yet?

are you in beta? an online friend of mine who ive played mmo's with for around 10 years is in the beta and he said in the last patch they added sentry towers to places that dont make sense because they apear in areas that arent suposed to be safe.

he made it sound almost as if they were spread out like checkpoints

They say the 25th.
Could do with getting their act together on the web servers for pre-ordering though, they've been unusable for days (even trying at 4am!)
You can start torrenting the client from http://www.eu1.darkfallonline.com/dl/DarkfallFull/ at some point today.

Is this going to be the only way to download the files? If so, that instantly rules me out.. As Im at university :(

Bit off topic, but if this is a common problem for you I'd suggest you looking up using Putty and SSH tunnels. Will need to get yourself access to some kind of 'nix server.
