Why Saints Row 2 is better than GTA4

Loved Saints Row. Rushed out and bought Saints Row 2.

Easily one of the worst games I have played in recent years. I don't know what they did with it. A slight tweak to the original would have sufficed but oh no.

The car control alone was an absolute disaster.

I loved GTA 4 and I don't understand why it gets slated so much.

I think the graphics, handling and general phsyics were superb. The missions and the story line was untouchable in my opinion with great character development and attachment.

But didnt it bother you how much was removed from SA? GTAIV was completely stripped down the game felt well boring after a couple of hours. You couldnt even spend money properly as there was nothing to buy.

and unlike GTA IV it doesn't constantly slow down to a crawl.

This is why I want to try it. GTA4 at 576p (iirc) and it still did not rub properly.....wtf?

So while SR2 is not the best looking game out there, at least it runs properly.

I have not played the game myself, I have only watched a friend and it seems much more fun that GTA4!!
This game is good competition for the GTA series and hopefully the next GTA won't be so crap.

Its the GTA4 hate band wagon. No other game has had so much praise and so much hate. I don't know why people go out of their to put down GTA4, its almost like its the cool thing to do these days.

It's the cool thing to do indeed.

People like a lot of things, you can only be different by not liking it. The attention is brought to the negative side every time. ;)

Sometimes justified, sometimes just for attention.

GTA4 just didn't click, especially after the progression from GTA3 to SA. 4 just seems like a step backwards which rockstar hoped would be hidden by the more realised environment and physics. Although saying that TLAD feels worlds apart even though it is the same city. It just seems to work better than the main story.

One thing I'm not going to say, is that SR2 is better, but I wouldn't say GTA4 was either, both were absolutely stunning and great fun, both bringing different visions of a similar environment, something with a combined attitude/combat system, gta 4's driving physics, Sr2's out of car physics and interactions, and SR2/GTA:SA's customisation options would be heavenly :)

Have to agree with some of the posters here. While on paper all those things make SR2 sound the superior game, the actual gameplay doesnt feel right. It's been a while since I played but I remember there were quite a few things wrong with the core game that made all the extra stuff (customisations, weapons etc) pointless. The poor driving mechanics was the thing that put me off mainly though.

Funny thing is, I don't think GTA4 was good either. It lost a lot of the fun and customisation that the GTA's on PS2 gradually built up.

GTA IV was a bit too repetitive for me and stank. There isn't really much to do in the city after you have completed the game. San Andreas had a load to do and the mission were a lot more varied than this overhyped pos.

The main character Nico was simply boring and lacked charisma.

One thing which makes the two games stand apart for me is the production value (I like games/films etc with high production values). GTAIV was a very high budget game with superb production values, thought and attention to detail. Whilst SR2 was severely lacking in the quality department imo, I remember trying to get my character to take a shortcut between two houses in SR2 and I hit and invisible wall! - there were loads of little things like this in the game which made it incomplete imo.

I guess people played the previous GTA games for different reasons. GTA has taken the franchise in a different direction for this gen so SR2 is filling the gap for the people who don't like the way GTA has gone.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with a band wagon! Are you saying that everyone has to like a game?

I've played all the GTA games, the first 2 are by far the best, however the last installment was a let down. I couldn't finish it because of a bug on one of the later missions where I kept falling through the tanker. It just didn't feel right but at the same time felt exactly the same as the previous installments and as such was not fun.

I've recently played SR2 (without playing SR) and I really enjoyed it. I am not sure why but it was just fun to play which in my opinion is all that matters.

The problem with people now a days is they let silly things like a game not having the latest graphics or something not quite being right to put them off. With games only one thing is important, is it fun?

By far the best gta game for me is san andreas, which is why i loved sr2 so much i guess, its just fun and there is so much to do. where as gta 4 just wasnt fun for me, Yes gta4 graphics are amazing and the physics are good, but the driving in it made me want to rip my eyes out, if i wanted realism i would get in my car and go for as drive. Maybe i just like a game that doesnt take it self to seriously, who knows. :o (by the way is till bought teh lost and dammed)

I purely want something thats similar to GTA that adds the same gameplay value if not more so should I buy GTA4 back as I traded it in and then buy some points to buy the expansion or just buy saints row 2?

I certainly prefer the expansion to the main game. SR2 is a lot of fun though, especially on co-op. True it has lower production values than GTA4 but that doesn't matter with film so why should it with games? The driving on both SR2 and GTA4 is less than perfect. The bike handling on TLAD is much better although it now leads to comedy crashes.

GTA IV was a good game but i'm enjoying SR2 much more. Its just so much more fun to play. Yes the driving physics arn't as good but the cruise control was a great addition.
Rockstar should move away from the realism and go back to having fun.
