Which MMORPG are you looking forward to?

I'm interested in what blizzard has got next, it got wow right, so whatever it does next has got to be good! Apparently the head creative designer, or someone in one of the top roles for wow, has been moved to another project which is an unknown as yet mmo! fingures crossed its good!

This'll be interesting. Blizzard borg other games - they copy the ideas, polish them to a shine, and add them seamlessly to WoW. Be interesting to see if their next game will be something completely new or just a compilation of all the great mmo ideas of the last 5 years, polished so highly that you're too blinded to realise what they've done.

World of Darkness. Being developed by CCP (of Eve fame) and based on the White Wolf universe. A loooong way off but I am optimistic.

think i'll just wait for diablo 3, and then play it till blizz' next mmo will be out, surely it's gonna take a few good years.
fed up with recent mmos tbh.

I'm sort of burnt out on MMOs, so hard to get excited on what is coming up, although I have gone back to Lotro again but that's only coz the missus and my daughter are playing, so I came back to twink them out with my crafting alts :p...not really playing though.

From what I have seen of MMOs on the horizon it all looks so damn samey. Nothing that screams inovation or radically different.

hehe, I tried a trial of everquest 2 because I was bored. Its hilarious how badly it runs on a 3.5Ghz quad core and 4870x2 overclocked at highest settings, infact it feels painfully bad, but even with everything turned down a little, good framerate and animations set to full it feels awful. was just seeing what trials were available and I've never played it before.

Getting quite into the idea of Darkfall now though, apparently a few massive clans exploited a dead AI bug where they wouldn't fight back, made loads of money and are currently trying to build their own towns. bad, kinda, but because the game is how it is almost everyone will hate them and probably band together for an uber assualt, destroying the town and then a ninja loot mania will set in, could be hilarious and fun tbh.

That is of course assuming I can ever buy the damn game :p

At this rate Lotro's new patch will be out so will probably play through the new content there. Then back to City of Heroes, or even..... WOW.

I don't get why people keep making a almost copy of a previous MMO, but find one "unique" selling point, which normally turns out to be changing something good into something crap just for the sake of being different.

Why doesn't someone make WoW, but up to date, non cartoony, looks superb and add a few more pvp modes for various people to do various different things.

A city of heroes 2, with a hugely updated interior mission engine (so you don't play 3 different levels start to finish) massively improved graphics but the same basic idea. Why does everything have to be original and new, they just end up being crap.

Pretty much what I'm planning. I'll do diablo3 and will most likely play with friends from old mmos until blizz's new mmos out, I'm sure it will be worth playing just dunno if it will be the next best thing and then again do I really want to be sucked into mmos again >_<

none of them,all mmos take over your life(if u want to be no1) and cost lots of money to be top of the tree...no point being second place is there....

Really enjoying the DAoC trial, playing a hunter on a classic server. Pity the servers are nearly dead :(. Won't be spending money on the game unless the origins server comes out. Seems kind of pointless to play when i know i wont be in 14 days time so stopped for now. Back to single player games for now i think until Darkfall gets sorted.

Champions Online Not sure about the cell shaded idea, but if it keeps to the CoH ethos, it should be a winner.

Not entirely sure, I'll surely check it out, interested, but they seem to say they've done away with recharge times and auto attacks, all instance stuff which makes me think combat will be pretty big in difference, also aimed at consoles which again makes you think there will be a relatively limited amount of attacks or possibly, attacks that change throughout combo's or something, need to see more of it.

Looks quite purdy though and hope it can be very good. Didn't realise Cryptic were behind star trek online aswell. Will have to see how both turn out, could be very good.

Haven't really enjoyed an MMO since things like Legend of Mir 2/3 and Myth of Soma, they were not fantastic graphiced (isometric like diablo), didn't have a story or quest line to follow they were just old school hard core style Korean mmo's, the things that made them awesome were the people, the game had a small community where everyone knew everyone so people who wanted to be known and make a name for them self could - back in the day a well known PKer could clear an area just by running in to it and letting others see his/her name, items were actually rare (only one of some items in game), and some of the ideas were just awesome shame that was back in 2001 and the whole gaming market has changed since then, Blizzard ruined the MMO market which was a lot smaller and tighter before its release,

Personally i dont think i could ever return to an MMO these days as they are to taxing and all set out to be just the same as WoW with little to no diversity,

M,

anyone remember knight online? used to play in MYKO, like 15 hours a day, ohh the good old days, I miss 'em :(.
Anyway, I might give EVE a go, downloading the client ow + 14 days trial.
really need an mmo <-... :O

My perfect MMO would feature:

* Levels
* Factioning
* Constant gear upgrades
* Orcs and Elves
* Tiered spell upgrade system where every spell is a slight improvement on the last and you've seen them all by lvl 10, with inspirational spell names like Fireball Number 8 and Blast of Water 15
* A ridiculous amount of quests that have you running errands for fishmongers, BE STILL MY BEATING HEART
* Mounts at mid level
* Really bad lore
* A Wolf, A Mature Wolf, A Deranged Wolf, A Diseased Wolf, A Ghost Wolf, A Super Diseased Mature Ghost Wolf

Wish someone would hurry up and make one like that

I've yet to find an MMO that compares at all to EvE. The Darkfall feature list really had me excited though - especially the fact that PvP will be genuine and involve (shock, horror) potentially genunine loss. But that company (Aventurine) has really made a mess of their marketing - and I'm not sure how playable this thing will be. Not only that but I find typical fantasy fare a real turn off (something a alternative like the Witcher I can get excited about however - I'm sure I'm oversimplifying things here.

Jumpgate looks like it might be fun but I'm sure it will lack depth and longevity. Infinity: Quest for Earth is an incredibly exciting project but I always feel as though its just a chance for lead programmer, Flavien Brebion to show off his coding prowess. I'm sure he is a genius, with no experience in the field myself its hard for me to comment - but it requires something more than that to make a game... That said more people are on board now, some of the user submitted spaceships/stations etc. look INCREDIBLE. I guess what I'm most worried about is the gameplay and ideas - but I haven't looked into the development of it in depth for a while now.

Edit:

This is rather hilarious. I just threw "infinity quest for earth" into google and this is what came out:

"Infinity: The Quest for Earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Infinity: The Quest for Earth is a vaporware space MMOG being developed by Flavien Brebion and a small group of developers and contributors. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinity_the_quest_for_earth - 38k - Cached - Similar pages -"

:D

Its not like that in the actual article however. I guess its not been removed from Googles cache (not sure how these things work).

Hehe I played EvE non-stop for a few months while I was ill. All the time I wondered how people had full time jobs and played. Now that I'm better and working full time I find it impossible to get back into - so though I hate to admit it I think I must sympathise with your closing sentiment :p .
