New iMacs/Minis Tomorrow?

Oh right ok

I'm really pleased actually

I bought a 24" iMac last week with a 2600 pro, 4Gb of ram and 2.8Ghz CPU, only thing that I would really notice in thse updates is the GPU, but then I'm not playing games on it, so even that is debatable

Wow, just wow. Can't help but feel that this will help hold the value of previous gen machines. I'll be selling my imac in a few months to get a macbook so hopefully this will help me get more for it.

Yes but what is meant to happen is that you are angry that you didn't wait. :p

I'm beyond thankful I didn't sell my Mac Pro and buy the new one, I could have not have justified such a layout for a machine with a quad core.

Disappointed more than anything about the Mini, was really looking forward to getting it in as a HTPC but at that price I'll look around for alternatives.

Hmmmm, given the spec & price of the mini I think I will be sticking with my apple tv and getting the QNAP 209 II with some tasty green hdds instead.

I was going to get a 1TB Time Capsule tomorrow - didn't even realise they were going to be upgraded today. However, an extra £50 on top of an already expensive product is a total joke as far as I'm concerned. I'm having serious second thoughts now.

Might be behind the times here but how long have the mini dvi adapters been out?

I want one of those LED screens!

I suspect it'll be lost in a sea of outrage but the price hikes are hardly apple's fault. The old mini's had their prices set when a £ bought you close to 2$, now it buys you $1.4. You'd have to be clinically insane to blame apple for changes in exchange rates.

It's only $599 in the states which is fantastic considering it's got hugely better graphics, firewire 800 (a major benefit for me at least) and the low end model finally gets a superdrive.

I could have paid £11 more for halfway decent graphics if I'd waited a month... Arse.

What speed was the last superdrive on the high end mini? Was it 8x too?

I suppose the low end mini is not a bad bet if you were previously looking at one of the high end ones. It still seems a very marginal improvement though.

It was never a cheap product and the upgrades are worthwhile stuff if you're running older devices alongside 802.11n stuff. The guest networking is also a fairly high end feature ...

Depends on your use for it really. Like the new macbook, the graphics are a big deal if you use them. The 9400m will play cod4 at reasonable frame rates on a 19" monitor (or a a macbook screen). Previously you had no option other than a imac for that. (and obviously that'll do some good for HD playback too).

I know it was never a cheap product, that's why making it even more expensive is harder to swallow!

However, your previous post about the exchange rate is a very valid point.

Blimey, if you up the mini's CPU to 2.26GHz and the RAM to 4GB it weighs in at £850. Add on a screen and it's going to cost more than the lowest end Imac. They really rip you off with the upgrades...

I was actually quite interested in a Mac Mini but my mouth literally went  when I saw the prices. Initially not about the actual amount but for charging £150 for 1GB RAM, 200GB HDD & 128MB Graphics Memory.

The price difference from putting in these components vs. the previous ones:

+£13 for 1GB RAM, +£20 200GB HDD space and 128MB Graphics memory +£15 at MOST. So that's £50 for an individual consumer limit. £150 is just...just...

Saying that at using 13W when idle you'll probably save yourself quite a bit of electricity. It's like an energy saving bulb :D

I feel awful now, my Bros Pc went and after playing about with my iMac I was eager to tell him to hold off and get a Mini, but all of this is just a blatant rip off....jesus I cant express how much this angers me.

£500 for the basic Mac mini and still only 1GB of RAM? No thanks. It doesn't even come with a remote!

Grrrr... my credit card is safe for now. :)

Also just checking, with the iMac, you don't get the full keyboard, ie, no numeric keypad, and you dont even get the remote with it?.....this is dire.
