Windows 7 beta - 9th January

I finally got Windows 7 to install today.

Its really good, I dunno if its my ssd's or its just loads faster but some things install instantly. Its fast and looks good, very happy with it so far.

Does Google Chrome work ok in Win7? I went to install it and it complained about an issue so I didn't do it. Really missing Chrome :(

Didnt work for me. Is chrome still in beta?

It works, but you need to add a parameter.

Win7 64bit doesn't like Chrome, but adding "--in-process-plugins" to the shortcut fixes it, ie the target path should be:

Code:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe --in-process-plugins

7057 32bit is out... A lot of RC1 looking bits and bobs. I've just upgraded to 7048 so really trying to hold back and make sure it is the official RC1 just so I dont have to do it all again next month :) No 64bit build yet though.

Expires March 2010 too!!

Having a mare with permissions at the moment.

Last week I couldn't download anything using Firefox because my download folder was locked.

Yesterday the Firefox update couldn't install itself because Firefox.exe was locked and I couldn't delete it because I didn't have permission. The installer had removed most of the previous version so I ended up having to install it to a different folder.

This morning Windows decided to lock my Vista partition which meant I couldn't boot in to Vista. Had to do a start-up repair with the Vista disc to allow me to use it again.

Seem to be getting more and more file and folder locks and it's just become annoying to use.

Going to format and just install Vista and wait until Windows 7 is released before installing it again.

win 7 is another user and ntfs wont let you access it if you are on another os, etc

You can change permissions whenever you like afaik, just do it under the properties and it'll reset all the attributes of all the files under that folder

Where can I get this latest build, I allready broke various programs on my copy so need to reinstall anyway

Upgraded to 7057 from 7000 and no issue sat all on Samsung NC10, everything worked out the box. Only things I had to revert back to my previous settings were system sounds and the Aero colour scheme.

Impressive.

7057 Build

Expiration Date Change

This build, in preparation for the RC, has an expiration date which is set to March 1, 2010. I have already seen people reading into this WAY too much stating that this must mean Microsoft won’t release Windows 7 until early 2010. I can assure you all that this expiration date is merely there to give people ample time to get retail bits before their RC build expires.

Where are you guys getting these latest builds from? I don't understand why they don't come via Windows Update, don't the new bits need testing?

New builds you have to download the whole OS.

I'm running 7048 x64 here and it's running great, I was having random crashes but I think they stopped when I lowered my GPU overclock.

I'm sure it's been posted in here already. But is there away to get windows7 taskbar more like vista. with separate quick launch and open tabs.

Much difference? Is it around 3.2GB again in size?

new start & shut down screen, alt tab peak is in & a few other things. size is 2.6GB

ok cheers. Am I able to upgrade from build 7000 or is it a complete installation?

I did an upgrade on mine easily no hassle.

Properties on taskbar > never combine in the drop down. Dunno about quick launch though.
