Bahrain GP 2009 - Race 4/17

I think they should loosen up the specifications on the KERS. Give a maximum energy used per lap, but allow the cars to use it how they like, half a second with an extra few hundred bhp, or perhaps a whole lap of an extra 10-20 :)
I don't think it should be compulsory.

Exceedingly so. Think Legard mentioned that BMW put all their eggs into the KERS basket and it isn't working. Not much success for KERS cars so far this year and EJ quite right in thinking its a waste of time. I wonder if le FIA will back down on compulsory KERS for 2010?

Well now Briatore is saying FOTA are looking to ban KERS

KERS is the worst idea since needing to use 2 tyre types in the race! I especially don't know why teams wasted money on developing it this year when a standard unit is coming in next year! I really hope they scrap KERS seeing as how badly it has gone down with drivers this year. I suspect Maclaren are still running it purely because they spent so much money on it!

Right, Piquet has to be out soon? He is just that rubbish. Letting Renault down massively.
Has there been any word on Bourdais getting the boot? He has a Piquet level of F1 talent (not enough), and I'm sure he's had excuses and apologies every quali for his rubbish performances... Might aswell get Liuzzi back in there, at least he was a laugh.

Edit: And before someone says it, yes yes, we all know of his previous success in other forms of motorsport. It means nothing though, he's been consistantly rubbish.

Agreed. It was a rubbish idea to let teams develop it for 2009 and then make it compulsory for 2010.

Good good. :)

I really don't get the two tyre types in a race rule. What does it do?

I suspect McLaren are still running KERS because it seems to work quite well for them.

the mclarens have had awesome sector times on the straights and have struggled in the twisty section all weekend, iam guessing they are planning on maximising their kers and have set up the car to overtake others on the straights.

they did the same in brazil 2 years ago for almost great affect, they guessed overtaking in the twisties was unachievable and went for the straightline performance which almost allowed hamilton to recover his places for a wdc.

3 hours after the qualifying has finished and the BBC don't have highlights or a full reply of the qualifying online or on the red button??

And no car weights yet... :(

01 J. Trulli Toyota 1:33.431 --- . 648.5
02 T. Glock Toyota 1:33.712 --- . 643.0
03 S. Vettel Red Bull 1:34.045 --- . 659.0
04 J. Button Brawn GP 1:34.044 ---. 652.5
05 L. Hamilton McLaren 1:34.196 --- . 652.5
06 R. Barrichello Brawn GP 1:34.239 --- . 649.0
07 F. Alonso Renault 1:34.578 --- . 650.5
08 F. Massa Ferrari 1:34.818 --- . 664.5
09 N. Rosberg Williams 1:35.134 . 670.5
10 K. Räikkönen Ferrari 1:35.380 . 671.5

So Hamilton outqualified Barrichello with extra weight. Thats pretty good.

Also Vettel looks to have got the situation spot on.

the redbull looks to be the fastest car on the grid now just a tad ahead of toyota, the brawns pace has dissapeared possibly due to the extreme heat while mclaren have sneaked up.

webber had good sectors when he had the chance, certainly fast enough for a top 8 position.

guesses-

lap 13- glock
lap 15- trulli
lap 16- alonso, barrichello
lap 17- button, hamilton
lap 19- vettel
lap 21- massa
lap 23- rosberg, raikonnen

I think it makes it easier for a spectator to follow strategies and see whos on what.
Hmm don't really get that. All it means is a driver must use two tyre types for me. What does it matter to a spectator if a driver uses one type of tyre or not during a race? Just utter madness as far as I'm concerned.

Before you had both bridgestones and michelin tyres and a multitude of compounds. Difficult to follow.

Also it does matter to the average spectator if they actually want to analyse the positions properly.
