Our family has always had labradors, they are so much fun. Extremely clever animals, i've taught ours a lot of things. It can can do a lot of tricks my favourite of which is the army crawl. It fetches the newspaper and post from the front door, it helps carry things in from the car when we go shopping. My dad even made a doorbell mounted to a piece of wood that it taps when it wants to go out in the garden. Its so much fun as well, really playful with so much energy, it never gets angry, and is fantastic with children when they play with it.

We had labradors since i was a very young child, and they've always been fantastic, i used to sleep in our old dogs basket with it too.

German Shepherd gets my vote. Been fine with the kids even when they were babies.

i know i just cant decide i'm not getting one until new baby is 6 mnths probably change my mind a 1000 times, I plan on having 2 dogs again eventually may even get another JRT one day

GSDs are one of the only breed I know who takes kids in as pups, even when growing up.

When I was a child with our family GSD i used to get up in the middle of the night go down stairs and cuddle in to him as a teddy.

My opinion would be two GSDs.

I have a GSD(mine) and a Shar Pei (GF)

I would like an Alaskan Malamute when Max is older but I would end up getting another GSD.

Is that a bone from the Mother-In-Law? lol

No it is a Cows knuckle bone (including the shin) I will generally feed him cut marrow bones as treats but these came from my BARF supplier and didn't want to waste them.

The shar pei eating hers (collor as she just has another entropian)

I know this sounds bad but GSDs/ Rots/Labs all have health problems and if you dont want to deal with that (with out scouting the world for a perfect pup) look at getting a sibe husky, they have next to no health problems, will cost you around 6-800 for a pup, same as a good GSD but have none of the hip dysplasia (which I am having to deal with for Max)

iirc my parents took one out from marks & spencer. Our lab unfortunatley had some front leg problems while it was growing, if it was out all day on the farm it would get very stiff in the evenings, and so it had to be rested for a while. Our pet insurance paid out for it to have swimming sessions to improve its strength without having the impact of running, this was at this special pet place at something like £60 per half hour session, including vets bills it came well into the thousands.

Our dog now absolutely loves the water, any opportunity and she's in. She loves to dive under the water as well, which ive not seen many other dogs do!

I'd go for a Lab or a mongrel.

Although we currently have a border collie, a staffy and a yorkie mongrel and we've never had a problem with them and my little brother. Depends how you raise them, imo.

Yeh, if they grow up around kids then they'll normally be fantastic with them. Its the same with introducing them to other dogs at a young age as well.

If you look at the stats you are more likely to get bitten off a border collie than any other dog, but because they are not used as fighting dogs/guard dogs/police dogs no one cares.

A dog is only as viscious as its owner lets it.

We had Max in to get xrays on his hips the other day, sedated aswell, which I wasnt there for, when I picked him up I asked if he had went for any of the vets/nurses the vet told me this

"yeah he turned to bite me and just mouthed me, I found it quite pathetic" I took it as a compliment as I have seen Max chew through marrow bones/ribs/turkey legs like they were nothing.
