**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

All that matters is that they've been with us for 3 years prior to their 21st birthday :p

We've got a few young English players who are pretty decent but they're all midgets and to make it these days you've either got to be 6ft+ or exceptionally good.

Anyway, Ince, Amoo and Darby are English :)

You're going to turn into Arsenal soon enough. Carragher and Gerrard are no spring chickens, in a few years time you'll be fielding Spain's B team. :p

It's the way a lot of clubs are going to be honest. It's far cheaper to pick up a prospect in Spain or Italy for a couple of hundred thousand in compo than to pay £5m+ for a similar English player.

Thanks to the EU, the likes of Insua will count as a home grown player next season so all this 6+5 nonsense won't change anything.

what a friggin stupid rule

Dont get me wrong, Liverpool are using the rule to their advantage and good for them, but if you are going to have a rule like that then they need to be British/UK passport holders or nothing otherwise its a complete nonsense

I thought the rule was to assist with the home grown Int teams - if anything that just gets yougsters from abroad get decent experience at our expense (which is the exact opposite to what the rule intended)

EU rules mean that nationality will never be taken into account and Liverpool haven't taken advantage of the rule either. As yet, we haven't got a foreign player who is classed as home grown.

Also, Liverpool are the only club from the top 4 to have started an English player in ever league game.

Exactly, although its not like UEFA/FIFA to bring in a sensible rule anyway.

It has nothing to do with Uefa or Fifa. EU laws won't allow a rule based on the number of foreign (providing they are from the EU) players. IINM that is what Uefa initially wanted but it can't happen and i wouldn't be suprised if this 'home grown' rule gets challenged and overturned also.

Nemeth signed then was out injured for first half of last season, came back and was incredible for the reserves. It's been suggested that he would have featured in the Cups this season but again he was injured a lot in the first half of the season and then went out on loan and got injured on his debut.

According to Nemeth, he trains with the first team now rather than the reserves so it's possible he might get a run out vs Spurs and im sure (along with Pacheco) that he'll gradually be brought into the fold like Insua has this season.

As for Anderson, i've felt for a while that like Hobbs, he wouldn't make the grade.

Of all our youngsters we've got coming through, the ones that have a chance of making it with us are; Ince (yes, Paul's son), Amoo, San Jose and Darby and in particular; Dalla Valle, Buchtmann, Nemeth and Pacheco.

edit: and the 2 keepers; Gulacsi and Bouzanis (reportedly a greek side has already offered £1m for him).

No Spearing in that list?

must be sacrilidge to have a Welsh or Northern Ireland passport these days

Still part of the UK is what I say :D

reports are suggesting that Valencia is now going to RM for just over £21m - for that kind of price they can have him lol

Sadly the EU rules wont apply in this matter, FIFA has already got a loophole for the EU which enables them to pass the rule in europe. I did warn everyone about this a few months back when FIFA passed the rule in principle by 155 votes to 5.

I am at work at the moment, but if anyone wants I can dig up the website that I followed the FIFA conference on, it goes into great detail about how they can actually get the rule working in the EU using the loophole regarding nationalities. Its got a lot of detail about how the rule comes into effect, starting in the 2010-2011 season as 4+7, then 5+6 in 2011-2012 season and finally 6+5 in the 2012-2013 season. Also explains what they mean by the various terms, for instance the player simply must be eligible for the host nation, not necessarily of that nation. So for example, Almunia would count.

With us wanting the world cup in 2018, you can bet we wont put up too much of an argument about the 6+5 rule (also, interestingly...of the 160 delegates who voted in that conference about the rule, the english FA was one of the 155 who said yes)
