**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

xavi is 29, replacement!

+1, fabregas is a perfect protege for xavi and would be groomed for 2 or so years time when xavi will be slowing down. {ersonally if i was Fabregas i wouldn't go to Barca, as itd mean being 2nd string player behind Xavi and Iniesta when Fabregas is easily good enough for any first team. He will eventually end up at Barca its just a matter of when Xavi is starting to slow.

He's not good enough for any first team if he can't get in a head of Xavi and Ineista.

He can't get in the national side either. :)

Fabergas is a fantasic player, I however think he might have to move to spain, Barcelona, to furthur his career.

Fabregas is a playmaker and he's able to play both CM and DM - Wenger has proven this.

Looking at it objectively, Fabregas would be an absolutely brilliant asset to Barcelona. I have no doubt he would fit in there perfectly. However, as an Arsenal fan, I cannot bare to see him go - he's too central to our team at the moment. I would love to see Fabregas mature to legendary stature much like Henry did, wearing Arsenal colours.

I didn't say he couldn't play DM, I said he wouldn't fit into Barca's system. He's not as good as Xavi or Iniesta and doesn't have the requirements to play the DM role in Barca's team, which as I said, is reserved for big blokes who do the dirty work and have no intention of pushing forward (for the most part).

Liverpool's players have told manager Rafael Benitez that he should bring Newcastle striker Michael Owen back to Anfield.
(Full story: The People

Been said for a while, atleast last season as well that some of the players want him but Benitez won't buy him as he doesn't fit into the style of play or the kind of player he wants so I very highly doubt he'd be brought back to Anfield

I think he would take 'Pool back a step not forward a step. He was reliant on his blistering pace in the first five yards, he is a crock nowadays. Would have been better keeping Robbie than getting Owen

Pretty sure Benitez wouldn't be interested in Owen, for several reasons. He doesn't fit the style of play, he's constantly injured, would want stupid wages, we could get someone better and he decided to leave despite Benitez having 'crunch' talks to get him to stay, when first arriving.

For all of those and mainly the latter reason, I can't see Owen coming back. Nor would I want him back.

He'll go to a club who will offer him the most money, because that's all that matters.

He'll go to Man City for the money or a smaller club so he's played regularly in the hope that he gets back in the England team. As Loki said, he's lost his biggest weapon which was his pace and if he were a horse would've been shot years ago.

He's played more league games than Torres in the last two years. ;)

If Arsenal sell Fabregas they can pretty much kiss good bye their chance to challenge the top 4, in fact I'd argue they'd drop down into the top 7.

Here's hoping. ;)

Ancelotti has left Milan. Off to Chelsea then...?

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5357202,00.html

Without a doubt, Ballack extended his contract earlier today and as good as said that Ancelotti is going to be our new manager but the deal isn't finalised just yet, this pretty much confirms it and I'm surprised Milan let him go for nothing considering he had a year left.
He's got a good pedigree & I didn't realise he was only 49, hopefully he understands more about the PL than our last full time appointment:)

What's this I hear about City chasing Eto'o?

Supposedly Man City are chasing, Eto'o, Henry, Kaka, Tevez and just about anyone else that you can throw a chequebook at.

Frankly, I doubt they will get any of them at all. None of those names are going to want to come to a club which isnt in Europe.

I'm guessing the amount of goals won't be as similar. :p

Torres wouldnt of scored in a crap team either.

Just look at his stats when he played for Atletico to now, nearly a 50% improvement on his best ever goal tally at Atletico in his first season at liverpool.

Owen can still finish when his head his right, but its just about all he can do now.

Its going to cost city a vast sum in wages to get any top players to sign up for a team that isnt in europe.

Isnt Robinho on 160K a week or something? and he has always been hit and miss, Imagine what they will have to fork out for real quality.

Out of interest was Ballack out of contract this summer?

Yep, so whether we've agreed new terms with him just to get a fee for him or whether we actually want to keep him is yet to be seen;)
