No it didn't, it just got there first. The GUI was revolutionary, it has changed the future of smartphones permanently.

There is nothing wrong with the apps for the iPhone, just that every other smart phone has "apps" (or programs on WM) and has done since the dawn of time. I think you'll find there are far more "apps" for windows mobile than iPhone, and a huge number of them are VERY good (made by large companies, as well as individuals). The one thing you have to do with WM though is look through a variety of different sites (although there are only 2 main ones) to find them, as you said the delivery system (although it has its flaws) is very good.
It isn't revolutionary, just evolutionary. It isn't like Apple "redefined the cell phone"; they were just the first manufacturer to take the inevitable step and converge the tablet PC and the cell phone.oh ffs, i wrote a massive post on the revolutionary aspects of the iphone
Isn't a WIMO device a tablet and phone combination, and that sucks! It isn't revolutionary, just evolutionary. It isn't like Apple "redefined the cell phone"; they were just the first manufacturer to take the inevitable step and converge the tablet PC and the cell phone.

I should have put it like this "revolutionary".It isn't revolutionary, just evolutionary. It isn't like Apple "redefined the cell phone"; they were just the first manufacturer to take the inevitable step and converge the tablet PC and the cell phone.
lolno one can catch up.
I should have put it like this "revolutionary".
lol
What they should have done is upped the screen resolution.
What is there to catch up to, a phone with no MMS or video capabilities? A phone with no physical keyboard?Well, no one is catching up yet I should say.![]()

To put it this way: if the iphone was the best phone ever and no one could "catch up to it" everyone would have an iphone, yet 99% of people do not...
I wouldnt say it was 'revolutionary' more evolutionary. Its a typical apple product very simple/efficient. Its speed/effects are fantastic and the way you can use it with fingers is awesome (still not matched). Id say the mobile internet browser is pretty revolutionary though (for a mobile phone).
But its the delivery system (the store) that makes it so good. Symbian/WIndows Mobile do have the apps but they are hard to find for the average user, sometimes hard to install and very often just arent as polished as iphone apps. The app store solves all of these problems - ovi store is a joke at the moment, the android store is pretty good though.
oh ffs, i wrote a massive post on the revolutionary aspects of the iphone but because my wireless connection is blocked sometimes by my crotch it's all gone.
I'll summarise:
Iphone hardware and software at launch = Unremarkable
Apple = The shepherd of sheep
Phone manufacturers = Want to capture the sheep
Software designers = ""
Every good phone after the iphone = dubbed iphone killer by community
Every iphone killer = ripped for being called an iphone killer and labelled a flop by the same community
In closing, I saw an article recently on the Palm Pre in which they had apparently examined all the reviews so far and come to the conclusion that "the Pre cannot not compete with the iphone" which I found laughable when in a lot of ways the iphone 3G cannot compete with a nokia 6630.
That is all
Well, no one is catching up yet I should say.![]()
Chances are, any screen res change would would knacker app compatibility.
The only "revolutionary" feature of the actual phone is the smoothness/speed of the interface, and one of the reason for that is it is only built for a very specific set of hardware (2 types so far). Whereas Symbian and WinMo are on multiple hardware configs by multiple companies.
So you are agreeing with me
The delivery system is good, but again the only reason it can be that good is that it caters for only 2-3 devices of almost identical specification (mainld processor power and resolution), WinMo and Symbian apps need to work with dozens of different configurations and screen resolutions. As for difficult to find, just type the name or operation of the program into google followed by the device type (eg WM6) and you will find loads of apps, the main problem with WinMo applications is that there are so many of them, there are loads of different types of file explorer for example, WinMo is so mature that there is almost too much available for it. As for refinement, I would disagree, there are plenty of big companies out there designing applications for both other OS's, all very refines, along with lots of individuals.
However the lack of one distinct site where you can view all the available programs is one big plus for apple.
Its not beyond the realms to create a store that identifies the OS/resolution of the phone, showing only the apps that are relevant to that phone. It can be done, Im sure Nokia wont come up with such an effective solution though! (however they will tailor certain apps to your location - which is nowhere near as useful.
WiMo and Symbian have so many apps yes - but neither have a store like the apple store - both companies should use such a back catalogue (which they are starting to do)..
There have been a few phones over the years labelled the iPhone killer, and stuck, but there are also loads that have been labelled that before release then sucked as you said.
There are a few phones that have caught up and overtaken the iPhone, have a look round. The only benefit of the iPhone is the slightly more fluid interface, which android has matched, WM is not quite as fluid but the wider range and better hardware (of some) has also overtaken it.
Id say only Android comes close, its still not as good as iphone OS imo. Palm Pre is a good effort actually, pity about the hardware. But to say WiMo is anywhere close is a bit laughable -that OS is dire - lets all pray for WiMo 7. Symbian, well lets hope the foundation get it sorted or the fabled Maemo phone is decent.
For example, who needs to zoom in to brows the internet any more? That's ooooollllldddd.![]()
It doesn't even multitask applications... /facepalmI was talking about the OS - it simply is the best OS at the moment, Im hoping others catch up.
So you are agreeing with me![]()
