**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I can't believe people are saying that for Man United to challenge the best of England and Europe, then we need all of these players.

So just because of Ronaldo going it makes the team ****?
We can't challenge the best of England and Europe anymore?

Sure.....

It isnt like that no, what has happened this year is that the short comings of the squad have been exposed, the older players are past it, the younger players are either not good enough, or are not training on as expected and our most prolific goal scorer has now bunked off to spain.
So what we are left with is a squad which, no matter what the media say, doesnt have amazing depth.

We have 6 mabye 7 top quality players, the rest are either stunningly average or past it.

Vidic
Ferdinand
Rooney
Evra
Carrick

In fact thats it, and thats the problem now, think back to teams of the past and the first team would have 9, or 10, or 11 outright top quality players in it.

Odd thing is - I think Giggs is more irreplaceable then Ronaldo. Ronaldo is a brilliant player don't get me wrong, but its the players like Giggs, Scholes (in his hey day) who are truly unique.

I'd like to think that if Yaya Toure was available that Wenger would put an offer in. I'd then hope he'd pick the chance of playing with his Brother rather than going to Man U.

He's a cracking player and exactly what we need in midfield.

We won the Premier League this season...
We were in the final of the Champions League...
Everyone was saying how good the squad depth was ALL season

But now because Ronaldos gone, all of thats changed :S
Right, ok. Yes, he will be missed, especially his goals, but I don't believe that we cannot cover it by signing 2-3 more players.

Depends if he wants titles or not I guess :D

I think having a player like him in a position where we were struggling for most of the season (Song certainly improved towards the end) would certainly improve our chances, especially now Man U have sold their only player ;).

From barca last season and this new team that Madrid are building the recent English Dominence may start to change.

I've only just realised all the gaps appearing in man United squad if they dont finish off signing etc. No doubt they will be there challenging for the title next season.

I will wait till the start of the season but i wouldn't be surprised by Chelsea and L'pool being the main contenders next season

Unbelievable that people are writing us off just because ronnie has gone - 1 player doesnt make a premiership winning team, its about the squad. United still have the best squad and if we add £80m worth of players next season then we will be even more formidable.

I fully expect Rooney to step upto Ronaldo's plate next season and start banging a few in, especially now he will be played up top not on the wing.

Really looking forward to the new season now, be good to see if others can step up.

Can't see us signing anyone major though apart from Valencia and maybe Tevez.

Man Utd without Ronaldo still have a better squad than Liverpool and Chelsea.

I don't see how Liverpool with weaknesses all over the team -1 good striker, only 1 good center back, average fullbacks and makeshift winger makes them more worthy title contenders.
they did well this year, no denying that but they have just as much if more need to strengthen their team than Man U.

Well Rooney cant stay in one position.

Berbatov is pants.

Tevez may go.

Ronaldo was the key goal scorer!

It just wont be the same im afraid.

Agreed, should be a cracking season.

I agree that Ronaldo doesn't make a Premiership winning team by himself, but rather a player like that could be the 6 points difference between winning and coming a close second come the end of the season.

Think it'll be a cracking season next year :)

Sorry but that's very far from the truth

To start of with even if the likes of Arbeloa, Aurelio, Insua are deemed to be average they're no more average than Neville & O'Shea. Carragher despite the stick he gets outside of Liverpool is still one of the better defenders in the league and if he can stay fit then Agger is a very promising partner.

Mascherano for what he is is one of the best in the world and Alonso is certainly not a bad player either.

Add all of that them having a quality keeper a genuine world class midfielder/support striker in Gerrard and without question the best striker in the world Torres I dont think there's as many cracks in their squad as people may think.

I dont think Kuyt's previous season can be seen as nothing but a success either which would only leave a question mark over the left wing position but between Riera, Babel and Benayoun I'm sure they've got enough there as well.

I had genuine high hopes that we'd hit form next season rather than stuttering through the season like we did this alas one player's sale has now thrown that completely out of the window (in my mind anyway)

Because that's not really the reality. We have three good centrebacks, an excellent keeper, 3 excellent midfielders, an excellent striker and a good forward/winger. We've been struggling in the fullback and winger positions for a while, hopefully bring some strength in there this summer.

If Robben stayed fit I'd love to have him at United. Just as effective as Ronaldo for me. Unfortunately he's a crock and would be a waste of money.

Apparently already a done deal

Good signing as well if it happens.

I did like this though (even though Liverpool dont have the money for him):

Chelsea offered 48M for Villa. Valencia would accept that offer, but Villa would like to go abroad only to Liverpool.
:D
