**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I'd say that at least he'd be a better team player than Ronaldo. I don't think he's a 20 goal a season man, though. If he could forge a partnership with Rooney they could be a pretty potent attacking force.

Ronaldo has gone Purely for the money, Real Madrid is a step down as he will soon find out, he is a great player but his attitude stinks, Man United will replace him and be stronger without him as im sure Sir Alex is already in negotiations for his replacement

Real Madrid this season would be a step down. The assault Madrid have made and will continue to make on the transfer market is very much a step up.

Clearly kaka was shown that ronaldo was coming to madrid when he signed and now they have both kaka and ronaldo you can see the players flooding to want to join in that.

I wont be shocked to see them get two more superstars and some moderate spending on the defense.

I doubt it is to do with money, united would have paid him very well. What more could he achieve at united? He's won everything and the league three times on the trot. Perhaps the desire to do that isn't the same anymore. I think to a portuguese player the spanish league is much more likely to be seen as a bigger draw than the english league.

I don't blame him for having a crack elsewhere. Especially spain which has to be a much better environment to play your football in than a wet and grey manchester. Plus the 50% tax bracket cannot help ;)

I don't think it's a case of money with Ronaldo. I read a few years ago that one of the main motivations for any move would have been so that he could be closer to his mother - who I think lives in Portugal.

As a Liverpool fan, I think it's good to see Ronaldo leave United. However, I don't for a second doubt that Ferguson will try damned hard to replace him with someone more than suitable. Especially with that amount of money to play with.

You also have to face facts that a lot of players see Barcelona and Real Madrid as something more than a football club. It's quite annoying, particularly in the case of Madrid, but the fascination very much exists. It must be the weather.

If utd got real madrid in europe i think ronaldo would get a good reception at old trafford we will miss his goals not sure about his replacement though. Valencia i think and maybe a striker as well . Real have bought two of the best players in the world maybe their next purchase should be a defensive midfielder so they can actually get the ball, kaka and ronaldo never been the type of players to track back have they?

Brilliant :D

As far as signings go, i'd really rather we didn't get Ribery, regardless of cost. From what i've seen of him, he's never really stood out, so for £50m, it's just ridiculous, I wouldn't even go for £20m.

He's an ugly ****er as well, so my opinion may be slightly based on that too.

Well if you dont want Ribery, even for £20m (not that he would ever be that cheap), we at Liverpool would most certainly have him ! :D

Real have more than enough good DM's, can't see them buying another, possibly a deep lying playmaker, but I'm sure they'll stick with both the Diarras for CM/DM

I'm just saying from what i've seen of him. The times i've watched him may not have been particularly good games and so he didn't really shine. If he can deliver like he did in France (from what i've heard) rather than Germany (what i've seen) then i'll be more than happy for Utd to pay out for him, but based on what i've seen, he's just not worth it.

He's not worth £85m, I'd agree with that, but if Ronaldo fetched £80m, I would expect that Bayern should be hoping for £50m at least if they're comparing.

it would be great to see Messi play in the prem. but i don't many if any clubs could aford i think even a club like chelsea would struggle.

At least Platini has had the grace to speak up at last.

The news brought to an end a bitter three-year tug-of-war between the clubs, although it was greeted with an angry reaction by Michel Platini, the Uefa president. He described the fee as a “serious challenge to the idea of fair play” and vowed to establish new rules governing transfers in an effort to “clean up the system”.

He spoke up yesterday :p and he is completely right apart from the every day part ;)

"These excessive transfers are happening almost every day. It is very puzzling at a time when football faces some of its worst ever financial challenges.

"These transfers are a serious challenge to the idea of fairplay and the concept of financial balance in our competitions."

He's exactly right there, it's annoying when one teams owners are willing to go into huge debt to be the best, it isn't how it should be

RM arent going to go into debt (as it seems they are funded by the royal family) - I still think its wrong for them to buy or try and buy all the best players, but at some point as a selling club you have got to say "**** it, thats a decent profit on someone who wants to leave anyway, and who is starting to become a pain in the neck (to put it politely lol)"

If you meant Man Utd - then you have to blame the majority of investors for saying "yes" to putting the club in debt, thats how the stock market works, its the system at fault rather and it will always be the case unfortunately
