**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Judging by some of the interviews floating around and of course the signing of Johnson, Arbeloa is indeed off. He's in the last year of his contract and has intimated that he wouldnt look to renew his contract so he can return to spain. I wouldnt be suprised if we see some kind of cash/swap deal with Real for Negredo once the Johnson signing is completed, makes perfect sense.

David Villa. He's one of the top strikers in the world, but most of all, he's a winner.

Too many big name "losers" in this business in my opinion. Thats what I love about Torres, he'll fight, bite, kick and run so he can win.

He's better than any of United's current right backs; as good going forward and better defensively than Rafael, and younger than Neville.

Wes Brown is so much better than Johnson it just isnt even worth getting into an argument over.

I could give you to the end of time to come up with a convincing argument that Johnson is better than Brown at right back and you still wouldnt be able to do it, he is so flaky defensively its untrue.

Wes Brown is a center back, who was played at right back due to a lack of players. A team that would rather play a center back at right back, might be having problems in the right back area.

Johnson, is a fairly good right back, he is good defensively and has improved going forward.

Manchester United have two natural right backs, the old and past it Gary Neville, who is picking up injuries and has lost what little pace he had. The young and fresh Samba Nev, Raffa, who still looks lost at times, he has a lot to learn about his defensive duties, he main positive point is he looks comfortable attacking down the right flank.

Carrick makes united tick, he cant tackle and he doesnt push forward, however, as as been said, he has played in a weak as water midfield and only when the **** was royally taken out of him by sticking him with Giggs and Park in a midfield 3 against the finest passing side in the world, did he truly come unstuck.

I'd disagree, I think Carrick has being doing very well at basically being a long term cover for Hargreaves. I don't think Carrick makes United tick either, I'd say the real heart beat of United, is Rooney and Ronaldo, as they have made things happen, Scholes when he has played has being very good. Carrick isn't the best midfielder in the League, or at United.

People are quick to forget that he has run MU's midfield for the last 3-4 seasons :/

cover for hargreaves?

cover for hargreaves?

I was always under the impression, that the season just gone Carrick has done more of a job of almost sitting in front of the back four, and having Scholes / Anderson doing more of the forward play. Hargreaves in the squad, I'd see Carrick doing more of the forward things, with Hargreaves sitting back a little more.

Carrick joined in 2006.

I'd still say Scholes has being more of the "heartbeat" of Manchester United, as he has done for years.

Hence why I said 3 or 4 seasons, I forget I'm not a fountain of knowledge on United like yourself :/

Now you seem to be posting more again you may have to go back on my special list.

I just remember it being 2006 in the summer before '07 because it was the same year Horse face left us :(

They literally only just bought him back so they could sell him on or use him as part of a deal.

Yep and who can blame them? They had the option to get him for £4m and he's worth far more.

As for the Johnson deal; no doubt a fair bit of that £17m will be in add-ons but it's still far too much. He's worth a little over half that but as he's English you pay a premium.

Hopefully with Real having cash to burn, we'll get a decent deal for Arby.
