**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I'm amazed there hasn't been more stories about Owen going to Man City, I mean surely that's a match made in heaven? There can't be many clubs willing to keep Owen in the style he has been accustomed to (£100k+/week) and they seem keen to land a forward. It'd also be fairly close to his home and I would have thought given the fact that he will turn 30 this year, lining up a bumper contract should be high on his priorities.

Except for the fact that City have made no indication of simply spending a billion on dozens of players, have been very cautious, are building slowly and carefully and haven't gone completely nuts(yet) I can't see how its a match made in heaven.

As for Owen, he should simply accept a contract where he gets 10k a week, 20k for every appearance and 5k a goal or something, he's still a great goal scorer, 1 in 2 for Newcastle is a great record considering he didn't get a chance to build any form. If he ever comes good he'll still score, if he doesn't he'll still score when he's fit. He'll be a great buy for anyone who can get him on a contract that only pays when he plays.

The question is, a PL team has supposedly sold 60% of their shares to a Arab royal family member, and it isn't supposed to be the Pompie deal, so some other team has supposedly be bought out on the sly. Liverpool maybe?

Hoping its Hull, doubt it though. Dont think it will be Liverpool as the owners have just about sold the NFL team to pay for debts. Arsenal maybe? or West Ham?

NHL ;)

You are right, it's not Liverpool. I've seen reports saying it could be West Ham or Everton. There is some talk that it could just be part of the Pompey takeover though.

I dunno, they've bought a fair number of players like Jo, Bellamy, Ben Haim, De jong etc. They've bought a dozen players in less than a year which is more than most. Owen is a free agent next month so it's not just about spending billions anyway. Robinho seemed like a showcase signing for the new owners much like the widely reported Kaka bid.

I don't think they are necessarily going about things the wrong way as I rate many (not all) of their buys quite highly like Kompany, Bridge, Given, Barry, SWP etc. I just think if Jo is on his way out and they offload the likes of Vassell, Caicedo, Benjani etc then he'd be a useful addition to the squad.

I guess the only question mark really would be whether Owen would be willing to risk not being a regular starter, something he suffered from at Madrid.

I don't think Owen will mind not playing every game as frankly, he hasn't played every game of a season for what, 5-6 years now, a contract and the chance to play in a decent league is probably all he's going for at this point.

Vassell is certainly out, as is Benjani, the only problem is no one wanted Vassell. He clearly played him pre Jan transfer window partially as they had few others, but to put him in the window to attract buyers, I think they would have let him go anywhere, for almost free, but frankly no one wanted a striker who can't score to save his life, lower leagues is where he should be but depending on his contract wages will see him happily play in the reserves. Caciedo appears to be on his way, though tbh he looks pretty promising.

Robhino was their only massive spend and theres two reasons, he was who they could get in the final day of the transfer window and he's really very very good. He was probably worth around 30mil and as they've mentioned, thats considered fairly cheap now. Kaka I honestly think, and milan, used City just to let the fans get use to the idea he was off. I think they also got screwed by talk of Ronaldo plus 100million last summer, and a crappy weak pound meant that what would have been 70million last summer, in the Jan transfer needed to be 100million.

De Jong is absolutely class in his role, Bridge is decent enough, Given is fantastic, for me, the best shot stopper in the league, Bellamy is more than good enough to push them up the league and be a rotation striker at a CL club for the future. They've been building very well and had a pretty weak squad to build on with a tonne of utter crap left there by Sven. I would think most City fans would now agree that almost every single Sven buy has become utterly useless, expensive junk. Not a single one of his buys has the same form as when he bought them in and there was a reason no one else went for anyone Sven did.

IIRC though it wasn't the current owner who bought Ben Haim, Zabeleta and Jo. The current owners got Robinho, then in jan, Given, De Jong, Bridge, Bellamy, they might have gotten Kompany aswell. It was the other guys who bought the frankly, worst buys, over summer before the takeover I think.

AS for whose getting bought, its difficult. Could be west ham though afaik the Icelandic group is fairly stable and its a fairly cheap investment for them, while the owner lost loads of money himself, I think West Ham were actually doing pretty well financially, small squad, few stars, decent sized stadium, sells out, decent ticket price. ALso tbh at the value of West Ham I don't know why they'd go for only 60% of the club. Which is what makes me think someone like Liverpool. Gillet is selling up his NHL team, but the money he'll get, circa 300mil, is only really covering the debt, not making him rich. Hicks might have sold his shares, and Gillet some of his while they retain some involvement.

Could be hilarious and someone showed the Arab's the list of teams last year and sold Newcastle as a premiership club :p

AFAIK its definately a different guy and a different go-between for the Pompie deal so unlikely to be that. Again because its only a 60% buy it makes me think its a bigger club where 60% is still a huge investment and a big enough club to have history so the current owners didn't want to sell up completely. I guess its possible that could include Arsenal, some uber richy decided to buy out the yanks and the ruski, but unlikely based on Arsenals style of doing things.

Anyone actually know whats happened to the Frazier Campbell transfer to Hull?

Lots of speculation he wants a bonus payment from Utd first, and/or he wants to play for Shearer / Toon Army (why if there are at least 2 EPL teams after you?)

I reaad some comments attributed to Campbell over the weekend, I think it was on Sky Sports News. He was saying that he wants to get the Under 21's out of the way before finalising anything on his return. The Hull chairman expects it to go through without a problem.

Although the word on the Caf is that he fancies Newcastle over Hull. He wants a good season at a big club like Newcastle, get a few goals and get himself established with a view to be pushing for the senior England Squad pretty soon. Personaly, I would prefer to keep him over Wellbeck but hey ho.

Yay Arsenal signed a defender! :D:D

Who did we sign??...

As for the 60% stake at some club...sky news reporting that it will be known in the next few days. Also reporting that Sheva wants to honour his contract at Chelski...Karim Benzemas agent is saying that Man Utd will have to wait till after the World cup to get him...Tevez is off to Man City as reported earlier...Barca want to offer Eto a new contract..

So far thats all thats been reported on sky sports news...

Also reporting that Sheva wants to honour his contract at Chelski...

Hardly surprising really, no-one else would be willing to pay the silly wages he's currently getting so staying at Chelsea is the only way he'll earn big money.
I can't see Chelsea wanting to honour their contract with him though.

Boooosh.

The reason there are so few transfers before the 1st of July is that nearly everywhere else (Italy, Spain, Scotland, France) opens their window then. Which is, I guess, why Ronaldo (and Kaka) hasn't been officially unveiled as a Madrid player yet.
