**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Arsenal would be awesome with a fit Essien in their side.

Won't happen, but still...

I do rate Essien, I'm not a huge fan of his lets call it over enthusiastic tackling at times but he would be the style of player we need for sure. The several problems being, we can't afford him, he's not stupid enough to think Arsenal have a better chance at winning things that Chelsea, it would probably be easier to get a move to Barca/Utd over a move to their neighbours both of which would offer a better team, more money and more chance of winning things, and it just won't happen.

The only thing Arsenal HAVE to have this year is a DM, and if we buy one, we have no cover at all. Realistically we need to buy an established DM, and a back up/young DM whose ready to play at least some games, so 18-21 probably with potential.

AT the moment I think Wengers plan is to get younger cheaper CB's in, allow Gallas and Toure to leave, keep Song/Denilson/Diaby for the DM role and try to replace Adebayor but frankly I can't see us being able to sell him. I can't see any big clubs other than possibly Chelsea beating his wages, and I can't see Chelsea being stupid enough to buy him even if its true that Ancelloti wants him.

WE should sell Diaby, Adebayor, Denilson, Song, Djourou and buy in two DM's and a centre back to rotate and offer real cover.

What I see happening is keeping those 5, buying CB's, selling Gallas and Toure and playing all 5 that should be kicked out even more next year.

Benzema...sounds more like a toxic asset to me...

looked more like Sean Dundee of liverpool fame than the next Torres...

Even our less than stoic Man Utd defence kept him from creating any chances, or looking good when he played against us in the CL...

whats all this panic nonsense that we need to rebuild our attack anyway?

Rooney+Berbatov
Macheda, Manucho on the bench...?

definately no need for a 45m lightweight unknown quantity striker from the French league...this is not Thierry Henry money/potential....

Dare I say... I don't rate Benzema all that highly anyway. He's done well in a tinpot league. No guarantee of success against proper sides and proper defences and proper tackles.

He's done alright in the CL:

(Last three seasons)

Rooney: 36 games, 12 goals
Benzema: 18 games, 11 goals

yes but i dont mean put him on the scales and his numbers will come back less than a malteser.

like i have friends who are 15st but can only drink less than i can and they still end up on their a*$£

in another footballing anology, he's not the "real deal" he's not the "big hitter", "the one" who will bag 30+ a season in the EPL....

yea but because lyon dont get to the final, it means their players play less games and ultimately then play easier games, making their stats standout as being better, relatively, than they are...

In those 18 games, as far as I can tell, he's scored one against manyoo and one against Bayern.

None of the rest are anything to write home about. 2 against Rangers, 2 against Steaua and 2 against Fiorentina (in different matches).

Not bad, but where was he against the other sides they played?

Bear in mind I'm not slating him, he has a good scoring record, but so did Kezman.

Ben Sahar has left Chelsea for Espanyol, shame really as a couple of years ago he looked like he was going to be the real deal.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/8113170.stm

We had him on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and he looked really good.
Didn't score many, but his close control, his willing to work for the ball and his hold up play were brilliant, the longer he played with us the more he got used to our style and started getting himself some good chances.

could have being a decent player I think, shame he left.

you may laugh Weebull...but then why did we buy him?!

do you trust someone who spent so much time and effort developing people like Bellion, Djemba, Kleberson, Manucho, FortuneQ, DONG FANGZHOU to sucessfully spend 45million on an unknown striker,

especially since the Veron 28million, Berbatov 30million, and no Torres bid debacle?

well if it comes to a choice between trusting someone who has won 3 scottish league titles, 4 scottish cups, 2 Uefa cup winners cup, 11 premier leagues, 5 Fa cups, 2 Champions Leagues and A club world cup 9 Fa Premier League Manager of the year awards coupled with numerous other individual and club honours.

Or someone who complains a lot on an internet forum, then it's a real difficult choice I give you that.

:D

What about the Eto'o rumours - any chance at all firstly that Barca will let him go and 2ndly that he would consider Utd?

Personally dont blame Fergie about Torres, we supposedly had bid for him two consecutive summers and wasted our time, and 3rd summer he moved to Liverpool - just one of those things however great a player he is

Should we have got Hargreaves and Torres instead of Nani and Anderson (ok Nani isnt much to consider fair enough, but potential of Anderson is worthy of the investment imo) - and considering we won three major titles in those two seasons, its not like we havent been successful without him.

If utd get Eto'o instead of spunking more cash on Tevez they'll be laughing. Eto'o infront of Berbatov with Rooney on the left(where he's shone IMHO) would be immense. Berbatov is lacking a player who will do what is needed, stay infront of him and finish off chances made for him. Rooney's a great player but he's more a build up and create than a wait for the ball and finish, I'm not sure he's complained about being played left as since he's played as a actual winger he's been very good. I think he was only upset at not really being a striker OR a winger but inbetween without a real role.

Of course he can get games upfront anyway when they rest Eto'o or Berbatov, not sure Valencia is proven enough quality and Nani certainly isn't good enough to take over from Giggs, who really shouldn't be playing much next year.

I'd happily swap Eto'o for Adebayor but it'll never happen, can always dream though.

Liverpool FC confirmed this evening that they had reached an agreement with Portsmouth Football Club and with Glen Johnson for the transfer of the player to Anfield.

Just says we've agreed a deal with Portsmouth. Doesn't say that the deal has been completed yet.

Hope it gets done soon though.

excellent news, now for that deal bringing in bojan please

Think he's a bit lightweight to be honest...wouldn't complain if we got him at the right price (£10mil or under), but otherwise would rather give him a miss.
