BBC Transfer Gossip said:
Chelsea are having talks with CSKA Moscow about £15m-rated left-back Yuri Zhirkov.

They are also interested in Inter Milan right-back Maicon after missing out on Glen Johnson, who joined Liverpool. Full story: The Sun

Chelsea have been linked with him for yonks, more reliable reports have said that we signed a pre-contract with him about 6 months ago when we sold Bridge.

And when our offer for Maicon gets REJECTED we'll be linked with Alvez, or Johnson again.

Liverpool may need to treble Javier Mascherano's wages to keep the midfielder at the club after signing defender Glen Johnson from Portsmouth. Mascherano is believed to be unhappy because he is paid less than most of his team-mates.

I wonder how much "news" coming from these papers actually stem from reality, and not the mystical magical land of fairies.

Looks like RvP has signed a new contract.

Wenger has said he wants to sign 1 or 2 more players, and hopefully before pre-season starts. He doesn't want anyone to leave either. He has also suggested a 4-3-3 formation.

Everything is looking good so far this summer I have to say. I'm especially pleased that nobody important is leaving. As much as I don't like Ade I don't mind if he stays if he puts in a good season, it's also giving the team a better chance to get to know each others game. Hope there's another 1 or 2 players coming in though! I'm sure there will be a CM as Cesc specifically asked for one and I think Wenger knows it's time

I have to say, the idea of us playing Barcelona's formation is immensely sexy. As Drunkenmaster does love to point out, we don't have any real wingers, more a collection of exceptionally good attacking midfielders/support strikers, so it would far more suit Arshavin, Walcott, Nasri et al if we did play like that.

Indeed. Does anybody have the quote where Wenger suggested he'd be using a 4 - 3 - 3 ?

Do Arsenal fans rate Adebayor highly ?

I always get the impression that he is a distinctly average striker who is living off the fat of an exceptionally good season a few years back

Awesome, the end of last season was screaming for a 4 - 3 - 3 formation and I think the only reason Wenger didn't is because there was nothing to win this year and it will add an element of surprise for next season as it hasn't been tested yet.

He's average, has moments of good play and the occasional good game but he has waaay too much missing to be considered a top striker. Arsenal are crying out for a really fast, dynamic CF who has excellent movement (a la Henry) and Adebayor couldn't be further from that. He appears to have next to no game intelligence and atrocious movement.

Stop sitting on the fence and tell us what you really mean :p

I don't mind if he stays but if he doesnt improve he needs to be on the bench, let RvP and Eduardo have a chance. Maybe benching him will make him work a little harder too. On his day he can be pretty good, its just too infrequent.
