**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Jorge Valdano has ended the transfer pact that existed between Real Madrid and Barcelona by stating that Los Merengues would go for a Blaugrana star if the chance arose.

The new general manager in Florentino Perez's administration at the Bernabeu also revealed that he saw neighbours Atletico de Madrid as fair game for bids.

Under Ramon Calderon, Barca and Madrid had a gentleman's agreement not to approach each others players, but Valdano has ended that and has been castigated by some sections of the media.

"Why not? If there was a chance that we could do it. The market is on a high and we recognise that Atletico de Madrid and Barcelona are two teams that are capable of reinforcing themselves like any other," Sport quote him as saying.

The Catalan daily state that Valdano is perfect to lead Madrid's transfer policy because of his impertinence and defiant attitude, but he was not so assured when talking about David Villa.

"We do want anything more to do with this situation. We do not want anything to be misinterpreted," he continued.

"We have already withdrawn from that and we are looking at other opportunities.

"If the player goes and says he wants to leave and does exit the club then so be it, but there are many people saying that Madrid created this situation and nothing could be further from the truth.

"Once Valencia decided not to sell, Madrid decided not to push forward."

Real Madrid = Los Merengue & Barcelona = Blaugrana

Anyway reading that really does show what a second rate league La Liga is when compared to the Premiership, presidential elections, buy out fee's in players contracts, unspoken transfer agreements  couple that with the matchfixing that is rife in Italy shows what a good shape English football is. Yet we still have a bad name

I fancied Huntelaar last summer, and would happily take him now but I don't see it happening. Better option than Tevez without a doubt.

Just a case of second season syndrome perhaps?

I think the problem that we had last season is that it was a huge risk playing two strikers as well as Ronaldo on one wing and Nani on the other and for obvious reason Ronaldo wasn't going to be left out, nor was Rooney and nor was both Berbatov and Tevez so Nani had an up hill battle from day one of last season.

One such game where he did start only to get subbed that sticks out in my memory was the game against Spurs at OT where Nani IMO had a good 45 minutes but found himself the one taken off, again not surprising really as you wouldn't take Ronaldo, Rooney and Berbatov off when you're 2 goals down

People can say what they want about Nani after last season but I saw enough from him in his first season to have the confidence that given a prolonged run in the team he'll flourish next season.

Obviously though next season if make or break without a doubt

What, Nani was absolutely horrible against Spurs, Rooney, Berbs and Ronaldo were linking up VERY well in the first half and should have scored 3-4 between them but created the same types of chances in the first as the second. Nani consistantly gave the ball away and was horrible and was subbed quite rightly along with a crap Anderson and the team didn't change "that" much, just the chances went in and Spurs didn't get more goals as a result of defensive mistakes.

AS for Jakelele saying Ronaldo still doesn't have much of a brain but his feet are what serves him, thats just about the dumbest thing I've seen writen in any thread on these forums. Its NOT his speed, nor his tricks that make him a great player, like Fabregas its his brain. He runs fast, but he runs at the RIGHT TIME to be in space to recieve a killer pass. Likewise he crosses and passes himself to the right places at the right time, he reads the game better than most. Nani's as quick, if not quicker, Theo's quick, yet useless most of the time, speed means nothing, a multitude of players with massive speed, even tricky players like Lennon who just do the wrong things at the wrong time show how truly useless speed and tricks are without being done at the right time.

Ronaldo arrives late into the box for a header at the perfect time because he knows when to arrive, not because he's uber fast. Ronaldo without any tricks would still have scored the majority of the goals he's scored.

IT also wasn't clear but it looked like someone suggested Barca don't buy established players? Eidur, Henry, MEndieta, De Boer, Silvinho, Van Bronkhurst, Toure, Kluivert, Overmars, Petit, Eto'o and too many others too list to be honest.

Also Ronaldo was mostly as good as he was in his first seasons as later seasons, the biggest difference was he turned into a man(albeit rather gay dressing one), he was far more "slight" in his build which meant a lot of the brushes against people at speed turned into falls where he now(unless wanting to dive) rides a lot of challenges which gets him where he needs to go. Yes he improved but not by miles at all, the potential was there. Nani, ANderson, they don't have that potential at all, they will never ever be close to world class players, they are closer to being Djemba/Kleberson's than being the next Ronaldo/Scholes for the club.

Well from what I remember from the 45 minutes that when United did have possession Nani put in two great crosses which when compared to some of his other starts last season was a good contribution

I know reading that people will think wow two good crosses big deal but it was during a 45 minutes that flew by with Spurs having most of ball so Nani couldn't have seen that much of it and for him to make that kind of contribution that stands out in my head like I said it was a improvement on what he did in most of his other starts last season

As for your Barca point it was me that said that they dont spend crazy like Real Madrid do and bar Henry most of their team either came through the ranks of were bought at a time before they hit the peak of their careers - Eto'o I'm looking at you

At least there's some more sensible prices being thrown around in the rumours today although I don't think Inter would ever sell Maicon for as low as £10m, especially to City

Evans? Welbeck? Macheda? Gibson? All have played a part last season and will probably play a part this season.

These are your STARS? Talk about deluded lol

Like I said nothing more than team players.

Hehe, you can throw Campbell and Jonny Evans into that mix as well. Also Evans brother Corey looks a prospect too and Eckersley has a chance.

Of course not all will make it at United. Standards are very very high but nevertheless it shows that the players are being developed even if another club ultimately get the benefit of them.

Oh and one more thing on this point what about Van Nistelrooy? Was he the best striker in the world when we signed him? No he was a relative unknown and we made him into what he was. Only difference between Ruud and Ronaldo was we managed to keep hold of Ruud during his best days and only sold him when wanted to.

So that's two players at the very least that we've bought moulded into the best and then sold

Ruud was unknown before he came to Utd??? Maybe he was unknown to you but not to the rest of the football world.

The discussion started out about STARS that Utd have brought through their ranks not potential. Every team in the Premiership has potential players.

If you were to name the STARS of ManU then all of them would be people that you have brought in for fairly big money. So although Manu havent spend as much as RM this year in the past the certainly have spend big compared to other teams.

I am taking anything the Star, Mirror and Sun say with a huge pinch of salt.

These are not the transfer rumours you are looking for.............................Nothing to see hear move along...........................

No, SPurs did not have most of the ball, the 2 goal lead was completely out of the blue, Man Utd utterly dominated the game till the first goal, which came completley against the run of the play from a pretty massive defensive slip by, I think the first was Vidic's mistake. Even then UTd had most of the ball and kept creating chances with Nani constantly giving the ball away, the 2nd goal, with Spurs getting more of the ball knocked the stuffing out of Utd a little and Spurs had most of the ball for maybe the final 10 mins of the half.

THe whole time Nani was utter crap, I can't remember the crosses specifically, I'll be honest, but a good cross is only a good cross if someones there. Too many people give credit for a "good cross" because it looks like its in a dangerous area. Its all well and good putting what might be a great cross into a normally great area, but if no ones there and you still whack the ball in, its a poor cross. For me Nani, when not blasting crosses behind the goal line or far to long, has his head down and just puts the ball in without thinking, like he passes and shoots without thinking. Sure it works sometimes but mostly doesn't.

You're also completely wrong about RVN, he was one of the highest rated stars in the world, and relative unknown, Utd had been publically after him for about 3 entire years before they finally got him and everyone knew who he was when you bought him, he had a fantastic scoring record before you bought him and was a very very well known everywhere.

Ronaldo aswell was being sought after by LOTS of clubs, Arsenal included, he wasn't an unknown, he wasn't a crap player turned good, neither were remotely even close to "moulded" by Utd.

Dont agree with any of what you just said but this particularly is the biggest load of rubbish of all of it

The discussion started out about STARS that Utd have brought through their ranks

No it didn't

Karim Benzema's agent has claimed that Manchester United are keen to sign the Lyon playmaker this summer.

The talented young France international has been strongly linked with a move to both Old Trafford and Real Madrid, although Lyon are keen to retain the services of their prized asset.

The Ligue 1 side admitted on Thursday that Real had made an enquiry, while United have remained silent on their transfer targets as they look to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo's departure for Santiago Bernabeu.

But Karim Djaziri has now insisted that Sir Alex Ferguson has earmarked his client for a move to the Premier League and believes it is inevitable that Benzema will leave Lyon in the future.

Valued
Djaziri told Europe1: "Ferguson wants Karim this summer, however his transfer fee will not be over 40million euros.

"He is only 21-years-old, the only time a transfer of a 21-year-old went so high it was the Robinho transfer to Real Madrid.

"Karim can't be more valued than David Villa, who will cost more than 40million euros.

"The question is not if he will sign for one of the big clubs, but when."

Djaziri's comments come just three days after he insisted Benzema would not be leaving Stade Gerland for at least another year.

If we want him just go and ****ing get him!

I can see us missing out on him by dilly dallying about until Real/Barca bid and then we lose out :/

Despite the idea of him signing for us is an exciting one I'm really not sure I want another player signing for United who has such big ambitions about moving to Spin/Real Madrid in the future - had enough of that with Ruud and then Ronaldo

No it didn't

It was reported recently that Arsenal nearly got Ronaldo before he went to ManU. But I guess you know more than the rest of the world...

And no it didnt. Explain where it started from then please. Enlighten me.
