**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I'd rate RvP higher too, by a long way. Eduardo has played very few games and before he broke his leg he wasn't exactly on top form either, scored a couple of nicely taken goals but had missed a few sitters too. When he gets a full season under his belt we'll be able to see. That being said he's still a starter next to RvP for me.

Ade was excellent the previous season, i think he started thinking he was better than he was and just didn't put the effort in. If he can buck his ideas I'd still have him as 3rd choice although I'm not hugely fussed if he leaves. Bentdner is better on the ball and more energetic than Ade but he seems very wasteful in front of goal. He's not very effective as a lone target man either considering his height.

Vela is going to be godlike soon, prob not this season but by the next one I'm sure he'll be a starter.

Apparently Gilberto has told Melo to come to Arsenal if we are interested, only saw glimpses of him during the confed cup so not sure how good he is at all.

Hm, I still don't think that RvP will ever be a CF like Eduardo, I see him as an AM/SS, that's why I think Eduardo is more effective in the goalscorer's role. RvP is obviously a lot better at linking up play and connecting the midfield to the CF, but I still think Eduardo is the better goal scorer.

There's an easy way to sum Adebayor up, he used to try very, very hard so Arsenal fans over-looked the flaws in his game, now he doesn't try at all so the flaws are even more apparent and he does nothing to endear himself to the fans, so people don't like him anymore. He was never good, he just tried once upon a time.

I watched Melo pretty closely in all the games and while he looks pretty good, strangely enough I think Gilberto was better in nearly all the games. If Arsene pays £15m for Melo he's been had.

Thats what I tried to say but apparently badmouthing the players that arnt up to scratch isnt allowed. Arsenal dont need a new striker obviously and they will prove us all wrong by winning the league and hoisting bendtner on their shoulders as the catalyst for the season and we will all eat massive amounts of humble pie.

On that topic, why did man utd ever sell Saha, best striker ever!

Theres support and then theres blind devotion, some people need to be a bit more objective.

Still require a DMC and a proper goalscorer that stays fit though.

A proper DMC not some 12 year old who's still learning. A proven tough, battling defensive midfielder, who has giant balls and isn't afraid to get stuck in. Arsenal need to splash out on a really good DMC.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has reiterated his interest in Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano.

The Argentine is highly rated by the UEFA Champions League, Primera Liga and Copa del Rey winners as they look to reinforce ahead of the defence of an unprecedented Treble.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is desperate to hold onto the defence-minded Mascherano, who is an international team-mate of Barcelona star Lionel Messi, and insists he is not for sale at any price.

But Laporta, who handed holding midfielder Yaya Toure a new contract on Saturday, remains a fan of the 25-year-old, and could yet consider making the Premier League Reds an offer.

He told icat FM: "Mascherano is a close friend of Leo Messi. We will see what happens. He's a player I like very much."

Mascherano has previously confessed he is uncertain if his long-term future lies on Merseyside to increase speculation he could leave Anfield when his contract expires.

Real Madrid have also been linked with the ex-West Ham, River Plate and Corinthians player as the Bernabeu giants continue their lavish summer spending.

Go on Barca get him! :D

Do people genuinely think that bendtner is good enough to be one of arsenals main strikers. Oh and having 50 strikers doesnt mean that you dont need lots of them to be good strikers.

What is the difference between arsenal, man utd, chelsea and liverpool. All 4 apart from arsenal have got at least one very good striker who sticks in a lot of goals. Im sure bendtner is plenty good enough though ;)

I have watched arsenal on at least 15 occasions this year, not all of them he featured in but when he did he looked poor. His main area that needs work is his finishing.

Bendtner isnt a rubbish player, sorry if that got your back up but seriously, he is rubbish compared to the club he is at and some of the players around him. I like watching arsenal, hate wenger but love the way they can play but bendtner is sub par.

Can you think of any of the top 4 who would play him at all, even as a reserve?

Bendtner will be a great striker one day. He has so many attributes to his game which are very promising, his link up play is quite frankly awesome, far, far better than Adebayor's who is considered a quality striker. He has great vision for the killer pass too which he's proven on several occasions this season. He is fantastic in the air and has scored many a vital header. Strong on the ball and he can hold it up well for somebody so young. There's other stuff but the thing that really shines through is his game intelligence, he seems to understand the game very well for somebody so young and over the years that's really going to help him.

Basically, his finishing is quite poor at the minute (although he's scored some crackers too) but that can be improved so easily, all he needs is practise and a bit of confidence (seems like a confidence player) and I think that'll come with time, meanwhile everything else is developing very quickly and the difference between Bendtner at the start of the season and the end of the season was massive, he definitely deserves a chance next season and I hope he gets it. Wenger is no fool and I'm almost certain he'll end up the one being right here, not you guys who think he's garbage.

Ok calm down

Being able to jump really high does not make him fantastic in the air, I remember 3 sitters in 2 games against us last season and he missed them all despite being first to the ball

I'm just trying to paint a picture for people who don't watch Arsenal too much, he has his flaws but he's 21 and has improved shed loads over the last year, if he's rubbish after next year then I'll agree with you but he's certainly earned another year in my eyes. You guys obviously know better.

Personally im no fan of Bendnter but he does have some quality in him...he just needs to learn to finish better as at the moment...i reckon Wenger will give him another yr and if he doesnt improve then probably get shot of him...

As for Melo, last i heard is that hes settled in the current team hes playing for and has no real ambition to come play in England altho i heard Gilberto has had a word in his ear about him coming to play for Arsenal...decent player and showed some quality in the confederations cup recently..quite impressive.

I would be more than happy to be proved wrong but there has been no apparent evidence that he will improve 100% and become a decent player worthy of Arsenal. You need a drogba, anelka, torres or rooney if you want to challenge for the title. Can you ever see him becoming that.

Wenger is a decent manager as far as I can see but I dont think he has had many options when bendtner has played. Hes not first choice even for arsenal.

Just seen a stat on SSN.

Man U score more goals when its just Rooney in the team rather than Rooney and Ronaldo or Ronaldo on his own.

Always said Rooney was Man U's best player. ;)

Meh, we'll see I suppose, he's only 21. How many first choice strikers are there at top clubs who are 21? Benzema? Aguero? Short list ..

Edit - Forgot Pato!
