**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Yes, a long time to wait for Hargreaves to be back. I guess it will be a choice of Anderson, Scholes, Fletcher or Giggs to partner Carrick in the center depending on who we are playing. Might got with 2 or 3 in there.

Owen is a great signing for us. Really pleased that we've got him atlast, after these years. Just in time for him to perform to help his England chances. I bet Capello doesn't hesitate in choosing him now being a Utd player. Well saying that, he did wait ages to pick Carrick on a regular basis.

Still think we need another midfielder. Someone like van der Vaart would be perfect  :D

If he cant get in Madrid's team what makes you think he can ours?

Let me say once and for all none of Madrid's Dutch contingent are good enough for United so that's no thank you to Van Der Vaart, Hunterlaar, Robben and Sneijder

utd have been made to look very stupid in the transfer market so far

I disagree, they got £80m for Ronaldo which is an unprecedented transfer fee, that blows even Kaka out of the water. Yes he's a fantastic player but being made to look stupid would be what happened to Arsenal, when they let Henry and Vieira go for £30m combined when supposedly a couple of prior to that they could have got more like £60-80m.

Michael Owen on a free transfer doesn't look stupid to me either, as I mentioned earlier even if he is sucking down some wages it's still no more money than would get paid out on buying in a promising youngster for a few million and having him in the reserves/fringes for a couple of years. A free transfer getting £60k/week is no more expensive over the 2 years than a £4m kid getting £20k/week to play in the reserves.

Valencia, well, maybe you could say he is overpriced but time will tell, MU always seem to get stiffed for around £15-18m when it comes to midfielders.

Tevez who knows, supposedly he got offered a decent contract and turned it down, at the end of the day whatever the fans like to think, if you loan a player for a year or two that doesn't automatically make him belong to you.

owen should get the luis figo treatment. Its funny how peoples perception of a player changes. If he would have signed for pool, mancs would bang on about how his finished and injury prone. Now hes a red devil, liverpool fans bang about how they never liked him, even when he played for pool.

Neither Van der Vaart, Sneijder or Robben are good enough for Man U?

:/

You do know you're going to have to play Nani as it stands?

10.20 Empoli full-back Alberto Massacci,16, claims he is on his way to Manchester United. The promising starlet claimed he has agreed to move to Old Trafford after productive talks with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Not really the type of signing we're after to be honest Fergie :p

Michael owen never had the same affinity with the Liverpool fans that the likes of Rush and Fowler had because it always seemed he cared more about playing for England than the team who payed his wages. In the seasons before major tournaments he would be injury prone but recover just in time to "prove his fitness" for the upcoming summer tournament

I think he was always respected at Liverpool for his striking ability, and that not a lot of Liverpool fans would say that he was anything other than excellent (except for his last season or two with us). However, as you say, he never seemed to care quite as much as Robbie.

Owen had a far better goal scoring ratio for you than Fowler and did the business consistently.

I hope he can do well for us, but it all depends on his fitness. If he stays in shape he'll get bags full of chances from our players.

Thats just not true! Theres a lot of political reasons behind why these players have not been playing for the club. Not becasue they are not good enough. Van der vaart is the only one who has not stepped up. Robben was there best player last season, surely he's better than Nani?

Going to be no Hargreaves this season and that midfield does not look capable of winning the league. :(

Yeh, you need another midfielder for sure. What about Mata? Not sure if he would go to Man U tho...You need a RB aswell really, scouts have been looking at Boateng! He's got potential, saw him in the Uefa cup several times!

Fans are fickle!

Really? That's impressive seeing as he only made 35 appearances in all comps. The rest of Real's players must have been really bad then.

He's too injury prone for my liking and ultimately if he's not good enough for Chelsea then he's not good enough for United. So yes for this up coming season at least I'd take Nani over him

35? is that not enough apps. 27 in the leage and 5 in the champs league. How many games do you have to play before your entitled to be thier best player?

He was good enough for Chelsea, he wanted to leave when he heard RM sniffing around him. He's been sorely missed for the last few seasons until Malouda showed up last season. He gives pure width to the teams he plays for!

Thats why your not the manager then...
