**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Barca paid just under £30m for Alves at the start of last season so I'm sure they'll bid a similar amount for Mascherano. I can't see Benitez turning down an offer close to £30m.

At the time Alves cost closer to £22m (even at today's rate it's only £26m (£4-5m of that is add-ons too)) and iinm that's the only time they've spent over £20m on a player.

And i can see us turning down an offer close to £30m for Masch.

Alves cost around £25m (about 30m euros) up front then £4-5m on top of that, that's around £30m.

I'm just saying they do have money, they spent around £35m last season and are probably going to get a fair bit for Eto'o this summer, so they will have money to spend, I wouldn't be shocked in Mascherano was in Barca's team come August.

I had a quick google and he cost 25m euros up front and a further 6m based on success.

And they need to sell Eto'o so that they can afford to sign Villa. I would be shocked if Masch left.

edit: had another quick look on google and most places say he only cost £23.5m

Fair play to Citeh for having the balls to try and sign Terry but seeing as Chelsea have said:

"It was made clear, for the second time, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject,"

"We would like to make it clear, and we will not do so again, that John is not for sale,"

they shouldn't continue their interest after that, unless the player hands in a transfer request.

I doubt JT wants to play for them either and has repeatedly said that he wants to finish his career at Chelsea.
But, if they really offered him £300k per week I wouldn't blame him for taking it, they haven't though, that's just paper crap:)

I'd love to see at the end of the window how many of the transfers mooted in this thread have actually happened. Personally, I don't believe any of it until I see the player in a new team's colours.

So essentially theyre saying make another offer and we won't say no this time. ;)

If you believe the press they already have and we've REJECTED it;)

zhirkov has flown in for his medical - about time!

He'll be a great addition, versatile, talented and most importantly not over the hill:)

Edit: Also JT is an absolute God at Chelsea and has the opportunity to be immortal, if he were to leave for what would only be monetary reasons at this point in his career he would lose that status and become just another money grabber.
He seems to me to be one of those people who genuinely prefer status to dosh.

Would City be making these bids without any sort of encouragement for JT or his agent? It's very rare that personal terms are agreed after the transfer fee these days.

edit: Im not saying Terry does want to join City, but i wouldn't be suprised if he or, more likely, his agent are playing City in an attempt to get a new deal with you.

Overmars was £25m, Ronaldinho was £21m (although about £3.5m of that was based on performance so hard to say what the final figure was).

i don't know where the idea that Barca won't spend comes from, nor that they have no money. A huge stadium which they sell out of the more expensive seats and normally sell most of the cheap seats(the ones that make the game look like two teams of ants fighting over a spec of dust).

Not to mention the 20M + they got just for winning the champs league, nor the tv money/winnings for winning the group games/rounds up to the final which is quite a bit of cash(100mil all told for Utd the entire run + winnings + tv money last year). Barca should have money to spend, if they want.

I think Citeh are making these bids simply as a statement of intent and getting their own people to publicise them so that people will start to take them seriously.
They know JT and Eto'o (for instance) won't join them at any price as they still have too much to achieve before they go for a meal ticket but in the current market who better to use as marketing tools to improve your brand than big club, big names.
I'm surprised they haven't gobbed off about making a bid for Gerrard.

I remembered about Overmars after a posted but thought Ronaldinho only cost £18.5m.

Regardless of that, Barca have spent £20m+ 3 times and one of those was 10(?) years ago. Unlike Real, they're not likely to bid crazy money/ott (as seen with their attempts to sign Villa) which it's likely to take to get us to sell Masch.

City trying to sign Terry is just as laughable as them trying to sign Kaka earlier on this yr...it would be purely for money if Terry goes there as they arent even in Europe...i could see it happening possibly if City were playing for Europe and challenging for the Prem title but until they do...they will just have to continue to live in their little dream world:p...what next??..they going to try and sign Messi??:D

Starting to yearn for the football to start, really excited to see if Nasri raises it a level this season along with Arshavin too, with really good transfer rumours being made up/thrown around it makes me a lot more excited than last summer

July always kills me, it's just a month of nothingness. Hell a trip to buy my season ticket is about as footballingly exciting it gets until the season starts :(

I suppose we'll be into the pre-season games soon!

Looks like SUFC are going to get McIndoe. Anyone know what he played like last season? Liked him when he was at Doncaster, but not paid too much attention to him since he moved.

Also look's like we might be getting Tommy Smith, any idea what he's been like? The reported £1.8m seems a bit excessive.
