**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

If Benzema is worth £30m, £40m for Fabregas is not enough.

The answer to that statement is neither player is worth anything like that.

Just because Real wet their pants and decide to drown the club in debt on 80 and 60 million pound transfer fees, doesnt automatically make every transfer going increase in price.
This is where the desperation of managers and the bad management of chairmen is highlighted.

Any Chairman outside of the loonies at Real who were prepared to sanction a 30 million pound+ bid for the likes of Benzema should be shot.
He's done nothing, in a weak league, its a nonsense.

Its like bidding 80 million for Ronaldo, he isnt worth half that as a good manager could replace what he gives with less than half that transfer money.
Its just easy to throw big sums of cash around rather than actually do any managing, or scouting.

We all know he's not really worth 40m, but you have to consider this summers events, and when you do, he is worth 40m because somebody (City or Real) will pay it. Supply and demand I guess, it's all very wrong, but getting paid over the odds for one of our key players would be a nice change ..

They're paying for potential though, he's got the potential to become one of the best forwards in the world and score around 25-30 a season for the next ten years.

As for done nothing? He's already won a couple of league titles hasn't he? As for in a weak league, what's he supposed to do? You can only beat what's in front of you. You're lucky Ferguson didn't have that attitude when signing a young Portuguese ladyboy who'd done nowt in the weak Portuguese league.

The facts are though that he probably is worth that to them. They arent just paying for what he can do on the pitch which is better than most players but also what he brings them in through sponsorship deals, shirt sales etc

So despite the stupid figure they paid, he is worth the money to them.

As for Benzema I dont know enough about him to comment on his worth but ManU paid about £30m for Rooney and he had not exactly done anything special for Everton at the time. So there is nothing new with what RM are doing, they have just upped the figures this year and are out buying the other big teams.

Fabregas is clearly a decent player, but his overall impact on a game and lack of goals and dominance definitely renders a sum of £40m digustingly high.

Using the arguement "if so and so is worth £80m then surely so and so is worth..." is futile - Ronaldo for intance can win a game in a second - a fantastic goal from nothing, a free kick, a moment of brilliance...not to mention his marketability which itself is worth a fortune.

Fabregas simply isn't at that level - his rate of assists is impressive, but as a non defensive player, his average of around a goal every 9 games doesn't inspire me.

And if he's worth £40m then Xavi must be worth £80m etc etc.

I think there is a lot of hype over Fabregas.

I'd rather have an Iniesta, Ronaldo, Kaka over Fabregas.

But saying that he has plenty of time to become a game winner.

He is a class act but not what a lot of people make him out to be

Yes he might not be as good as them now. But I think if you are going to compare players then you have to compare them when they were the same age. Where any of those players as good as they are at Fabs age, no probably not. You can not say he wont get better because he will and so on that basis you are paying for his potential.

And potentially when he gets to their age he could be better than any of those in his position. I dont think you can compare Ronaldo as he isnt a like for like player.

Couldn't agree more. Can't blame the Arsenal fans for it though, it's not like they have many 'special' players :p

Who do you support?

Why do you wanna know that ?

Aside from Asharvin, Fabregas and Van Persie I don't particularly rate anyone else in your starting 11 as top quality. Sure there are good players but nothing 'special'. That's been proved by what you've won in the last 4 years.

If i was talking about United, Liverpool or Chelsea I could name many more players.

For example - Manchester United Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic, Rooney, Carrick, VDS

Liverpool Alonso, Gerrard, Mascherano, Torres, Reina,

Chelsea Lampard, Essisen,Terry, Carvalho, J.Cole, A.Cole, Bosingwa, Cech, Drogba...

And yes, despite being a biased chelsea fan, I do believe we have the best squad on paper. Not that it warrants anything...

Fabby is a good player at the moment, a bit special, I'd take a lot of other midfielders over him. Nobody is saying he won't get better, just at the moment, there are better players then him, and he's still learning.

Arsenal fans do love touching themselves over Fabby.

Who do you support?

Gustov, supports Chelski.
I'm a Sheffield Wednesday supporter :(

And how many special players does Chelski have??:p...no one special enough for you to have won the CL title that your dodgy russian owner desires so much:p

What about the other players I listed above? I'm pretty sure Arsenal would take any of them on.

Not what I would call truly special players.

Very good, yes, but not special.

Reina, Gerrard, Torres, Berbatov, Rooney, Ferdinand, Fabregas, Arshavin (maybe)

Players who can single handedly change a game.

The best left back in the world not special? (definitely in the top three imo)

Lampard, 20+ goals for consecutive seasons?

Bosingwa, one of the best right backs last year?
