Super Unleaded - i cant see the point - who runs it?

Interesting you say that you had no difference in your S430. My dad has an S350, 8/9 years old, and it makes a big difference to his MPG (measured tank to tank) on motorway runs.

I'm not sure that most people will feel a difference in performance and certainly wont alter the way they drive or anything significant at all. To me it seems a case of a very subtle difference in the feel of the engine at any given point in the rev range and a subtle shift in the engine note, I don't mean from the exhaust either I mean the mechanical noise from under the bonnet. That is where I have noticed tiny differences, no performance difference though. Not worth the extra £'s to me that's for sure, but I'm sure they are there.

Maybe its the cleaning properties that are helping here. Most of us have second hand cars so we can't gaurantee what it was run on previously.

Most peopel are expecting a MPG & performance increase and if these fuels have the cleaning capabilitied they claim, then this could have a noticable change for some people who have bought a second hand car then run it on higher RON. Going back to 95 however may not show much difference unless you stick another 20-40k miles on it and switch back maybe.

Any supermarket fuel has left my car sounding like bag of spanners when the tank gets lower than 1/8 left (Before the 10L reserve light), BP 95 is better but I'd like to start using higher RON frequently just out of interest. Goddamn countryside.

Diesel - when you say your Skoda runs like a bag of crap on regular, in what way exactly?

If your Octy is running like a "bag of crap" on normal unleaded I'd get it taken in and looked at.
It's got maps for 95 & 98 RON fuels.
If it's having problems with the lower octane fuel I'd say you've got some problems with the vehicle.

'Bag of crap' was a bit tongue in cheek, in reality the 1.8t in the vRS is known to run rough at start-up for a minute or two. In my car this continues longer when using 95 rather than 98 (or 99).

Most of my journeys are very short so any reduction in this rough running is a good thing.

Halfords oil will do pretty much the same as Castrols finest, just like Asda petrol will do pretty much the same as V-power.

Personally I dont mind spending the extra on both counts, I feel it is worth it.

Just to add to this, I had to fill up the other day with Somerfields Unleaded, for days until I filled up again with V Power the car struggled to start properly, misfired at cold and generally boggyness. Whether this was the petrol or something else I am not sure but it seems weird the only time I stick some supermarket fuel in it acts weird.

Same happens to me with Somerfield fuel.

Most likely, yes. Do you think Halfords drill for, refine, and process their own oils?
I severely doubt it. However, they do choose who their supplier is, and that supplier is almost certainly not providing the same quality oil to Halfords that is going in to Castrol Edge, for example. It's kind of like saying there's no difference in quality between a Proton Satria Neo and a Mini One, because they are both rated to 120 mph.

Your car is broken.

Certainly isn't. Been perfect since putting V Power in and running a few tanks through and as evident I'm not the only one that's had this problem running Supermarket (Somerfield) fuel through a Highly strung N/A. Not tried Tesco yet as the nearest shell is 1 mile away and Tesco 8 miles.

Somerfields actually dilute their petrol with lemonade. No, really.

Ok, back to serious - probably a touch of moisture.

Bet you cant tell the difference between halfords oil and castrols though? I certainly cant, yet I use it any way, because I beleive it is a superior quality product, and this view I also take with petrol

You can get bad batches of fuel. I filled up with Esso Super the other day and the car felt like crap... very jerky when coming on/off the throttle. I filled up again later and it was fine almost immediately after.
