**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I was just comparing values, Arshavin is worth £15m, I think the other two are worth about the same.

Arshavin is probably worth £15- 20m I would say (if he can perform as well over a season as he did over a relatively small section of games at the end of last season)

Carrick is easily worth £20+ million due to success and experience and to an English club possibly £25m+

Yeah but Carrick isn't even close to being the best CM in the world, how is he worth so much, there's loads of better players out there. That's what confuses me

Bet you think Fabregas is worth that or more though.

Well of course, Fabregas is 22 and Alonso is 27, obviously Fabregas is worth more to a business/club, he can be re-sold for as much/more than bought for. Realistically Alonso will be 30/31 when he moves on and will barely fetch a large transfer fee.

Also, not sure if that was a sly dig at me, but I think most people would rate Fabregas as more expensive than Alonso, I'm probably not alone in that respect, added to that, most clubs would also agree.

Yeah the Liverpool fans do seem to get ultra-sensitive at this time of the year, why is that :s

Haven't you been crying over Fabregas for the last few weeks? :p

As for what Alonso's worth; we can argue as much as we like but the only people's opinion's that matter are Real's and Liverpool's and if a deal is going to be done then it's likely to be around the £30m mark.

Also Rafa's recently came out and said Veronin can help us push for the title... *sigh*... I'm so tempting to have a big moan, but I'll pass.

Lets just hope that when Alonso goes, the money will be used wisely. We DEFFO need to replace Alonso with an experienced player, not rely on kids. Also I'm still waiting for this striker we desperately need to sign because if Torres gets injured again... well its game over in the quest for silverware. I think we where very lucky to get as many points as we did last year.
Agreed. I'm also struggling to think of any youth players Benitez has sussefully bought in to the first team. He really needs to buy some proved tallent.

No, remember its preseason, Liverpool players are now the best players in the league again.
Eh?

Saying Carrick is better or equal to Alonso is just not true. He's a good player, but unless you haven't watched the two play regulary, know nothing about football or your in plain denial while wearing Man.Utd tinted glasses, its quite obvious who the better player is.

How many youth players have made their way into Utd or Chelsea's sides in the last few years? It doesn't/extremely rarely happens these days. If/when Alonso leaves then we're not going to replace him with Spearing or Plessis that's for certain.

Anyway you forgot Insua ;)

I'm confident Insua's going to develop into one of the best wing backs we've had in a long time. He looked so good last year, he's got a huge future ahead of him. I really hope he develops nicely and becomes a first team regular.
