**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I think he meant Arsenal's proper backline. I think Senderos is still a good centre back even if he's obviously not up to rest of the top four's big men (is Arsenal even considered part of that anymore?), he's just a bit like David James or numerous other players, who are probably quality but tend to screw up in extremely noticable and costly ways.

Wenger's men should be relatively fine defensively next season save a typical injury crisis, even if their left and right backs are almost always contorted wingers rather than actual defenders per se, but that's the way they play so c'est la vie.

I do agree they need a good defensive midfielder for next season, or at least a physical holding player for the middle of the park, I don't recall why Flamini was let go not so long ago, he seemed to fit the bill well.

Not sure if I missunderstood, Senderos in the DM role for the friendly? I didn't think so thought djourou and Verm were off and Toure/Senderos on with Denilson and Song in the middle. I was working out during the second half so not paying massive attention. Gah, I can't think, too tired at the moment and way to many subs in that game, including people who went off, and came back on again :p

Gallas was on ;)

This is the question fans have to ask themselves. Whats changed since last year that makes you assume Wenger's changed his mind. He let 3 DM's, 2 world class, one potentially world class and is very good(Diarra) and one more old fashioned central midfielder as opposed to defensive midfielder.

Personally methinks he's decided Denilson and Song are our defensive mid future, and decided to let the rest go as why bother paying them. In which case as he backed them and rated them all season can you really see him buying to replace players he thinks are great?

Wasn't the back four Sagna, Toure, Senderos, Gallas though for the second half?

no it doesn't, it very very clearly shows the guy in a corner, being elbowed by his mate who puts his arms up to stop the guy hitting him, then gerrard pounding into him.

Wow, I watched the CCTV footage on the news last night, and saw nothing of this 'pounding' you talked about.

Anyway back on topic.

Chelsea and Man City after Alonso.

Petrov would be a great buy. Hope it's true.

Apparently we've signed to two Kyles from Sheffield, but again, I'll wait till one of the clubs confirms it.

Dunno why we need them anyway. Who needs 4 RBs? 5 with Corluka.

Watching from the stands as Newcastle won 1-0 with a Kevin Nolan strike on 67 minutes were representatives from Everton, Bolton Wanderers, West Ham, Manchester City, Hull City and Arsenal.

With apparently one player expected leave before Saturday:

It would be a brave soul that would predict our lineup at West Bromwich Albion, but moves are afoot to asset strip the Newcastle squad - with one departure predicted before Saturday's game at Leyton Orient.
(From NUFC.com)

My money would be on Martins or Gutierrez to Arsenal.

From what I've read, we will be having Walker back on a season long loan. And Naughton is going to fight for a place in your team. Annoyed at SUFC tbh. They valued Naughton at £6m, but Walker at only £2m. It's a complete joke!

Yup read that too since aswell.

No. It was Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Traore. Senderos played in CM, with Denilson and Song pushing further up to join RvP at times.

Its rather weird, Traore as far as I know spent almost all his time way up the wing.

Basically it was hard to tell, they had one real player, and he was 44 yrs old and ridiculously slow. When basically all 10 outfield players are in the other half and people are just running for the sake of running, it all gets a bit flakey.

I think it won't be before probably the first half of first game in Emirates cup we get a real feel for who he thinks our main lineup will be.

Sounding more and more like Senderos will be gone very soon. I think he's a big loss, he's freaking huge, strong, tall. It seems a joke we might keep Silvestre or Djourou over Senderos. I'm also still worried that we might be losing Toure if the City/Terry move doesn't work out. Gallas is also not giving any reason to believe he'll stay beyond this final year in his contract, been crapped on by Wenger and he's hardly winning anything. Frankly I can a tonne of top teams going for him in January, if someone doesn't bid for him now.

Also, Senderos was in DM for the second half yesterday but often slipped into the back-line to make 3 central defenders. It was a messy formation really and nobody stuck to their position too strictly.

What do people think of this Sven stuff then?

It's definatly the most exciting thing to happen to the club since I started supporting them some ten years ago and what amazes me the most is there are still people moaning saying he will ruin the club.

Martns is far too hit and miss for any of the top four.

There won't be a tonne of teams after him, because his temperament isn't worth putting up with.

1 talking out against a team, which turned their season around aswell as made it clear the manager who dropped him had to eat crow and put him straight back in the team where despite being mistreated has been extremely professional aswell as absolutely excellent on the pitch. Then another team, sitting down AFTER A GAME. I'd take him at any club in a heartbeat, best defender at the club by far, and remember, he was key to the Chelsea defence as they won titles.

yeah, not watching every minute didn't help and when everyone was in their half it was a little chaotic, more about running than formations. Really happy to see Ramsey doing so well, Wilshire seemed a touch weak to me, a lot of his passes are, well it looks like it takes a lot of effort to get a fast decent pass going, a lot of his passes were weakly hit and his shot was very tame. Still think he's too small and not enough muscle on him to be effective.

Think we SHOULD see Ramsey a lot this season, but we won't.

You do wonder, 5-3-2, or 3-5-2 more like, with Sagna/Clichy speed up the wings where we really lack pace, you can get away without a DM if the midfield is tight maybe, and we've got an abundance of central attacking players. Rosicky, Arshavin, Fabregas, with two up top, could be awesome.

Look at what happened at Lazio or City, he almost bankrupted Lazio by massively spending on all the current in form players, of which most needed to be sold on almost straight away and half turned out to be crap.

City, he bought in form players overpriced who were inconsistant and not very good. Elano, Petrov, a bunch of defenders and strikers of which half have already left and quite a few more are leaving soon. As soon as "just been transfered form" wore off Elano was utter turd and the team fell apart, their 2nd half season performance was woeful.

Thats his managing tactic, go out, buy inform players at high cost(like the polar opposite of getting Henry out of form for cheap), over spends, ruins clubs, jumps ship before it all goes belly up. If City weren't bought out they were in terrible trouble. When given a team of players to improve, like Mexico who were actually a good team, he ruined them aswell with ridiculous tactics, formations, lack of knowledge on the players, can't motivate players, can't adapt, he's utterly awful.

He'll do the same thing he's done everywhere else tbh. Hoddle, while not a genius, is a FAR safer bet.

AFAIK Sven got the title at Lazio by taking a top 3 side, and spending more than CITY have since the take over(or very close still) on the best players in the world, a decade ago when players didn't cost nearly as much, he's ridden that ridiculous success ever since without any success anywhere, failing miserably while wasting millions everywhere.

Forest fan here.

I think it is good for the club but with arab owners its dodgy ground. If they pull out you are stuffed big time.

Sven as good as his record is has no experience at this level and although I reckon he will do well for you it really is 50/50.

The benefit of course is that it is raising the profile of Nottingham and with our 8 signings this season Nottingham is surely getting a good rep !

:D
