**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

"But Terry has now said: "I am totally committed to Chelsea, always have been. Me leaving was never a possibility."

Yeah he could have said that weeks ago, why now Mr Terry?

A payrise?

Just another mercenary.

If he were just another mercenary he would've taken the supid money Citeh offered, I would've that's for sure.
He's also said that he and the club haven't talked at all about his contract (he's still got 3 years) and the reasons why he delayed making a statement are simply that he wanted to wait until certain other players had agreed to extend their contracts, he obviously couldn't say what he did until they had:)

I'm not sure why Bent gets such a raw deal from spuds fans...was he top scorer last season?

he seems to have a knack for scoring certainly ahead of keane and the russian at spurs so no idea why he seems to be so far down the pecking order

I would welcome him in red and white stripes this coming season, goalscorers are so important and it just seems a mystery why you would part with one so quickly?

do people still worry about his initial fee and think he wasnt worth it?

be interesting to see if we get this striker from bordeaux and if bruce then drops his interest in Bent. spurs dont seem that keen to make a deal happen, which is strange given their interest in at least 2 strikers at the moment

Man City

I guess this money lark is just weeding out the players with no loyalty or commitment. Greedy ******** is all they are. I mean you look at the fans who struggle each year to pay for the season ticket which costs £800 while the footballers are getting payed £100k+ per WEEK. The more you think of it its just sickening...

The game is swarming with greedy players who have more power than the club. Contacts mean absolutely nothing anymore and I think something needs to change. I mean whats the game going to be like in 10-15 years? I think it needs to change. More power needs to be given to clubs over their players and there deffintiely needs to be a wage cap.

Players should choose the clubs they play for for reasons other than money. It should be about football, club and fans, nothing more. No person besides doctors need to be payed £100k+ a week, its ridiculous.

Its entertainment and that always pays big money from actors to singers to footballers.

City are doing what Chelsea did years ago.

Yeah, im sure when you go for a job, money is the last thing on your mind . Besides, players often turn down deals with British clubs offering huge wages in order to go to clubs they would rather play for.

So you are saying that he was waiting for the others to get their contracts signed? Sounds like mercenary to me. Waiting to see what they got then demand more for himself. And using the ManC thing as a way of getting more by not commenting on the situation.

If he wasnt interested in a new contract he would have come out straight away.

Fair point but when you're earning over £30k a week you can't justify wanting anymore, ever. Seriously, just try and imagine that amount of money, per week .. It's sickening greed.

He's not a bad player, but he lacks consistency and composure. His finishing is pretty average, and only scored so many because he had so many chances; sadly in the games where he was given fewer chances he failed to score. Plus with Defoe who is a similar player but with better ball control and finishing it's a no brainer for Bent to leave.

But they can only demand it if someone is prepared to pay it. The best players will always command the highest wages and it is the nature of a human being to always want "a bit more", thats why millionaires strive to become billionaires. The market will dictate the wages.

I suppose if Bent doesnt head of on the tour it means something is happening..anybody know if any of the spurs forums know who has travelled?

Matthew Bates has done cruciate ligament again for the FOURTH time, he's only 22 but the guy should retire. Although, he's just got a new contract at Boro so that'll be another season getting paid god knows for doing naff all. Boro should have let him leave for nothing, it was only a matter of time until this happened again.

I really hope the Toure rumours are unfounded, it just doesnt make sense to me when i would say we've only just now got ourselves in a good position defensively.

Hm, the only real reasons for him leaving would be if he wanted to (I doubt that) or if Wenger rated Hangeland (or another CB) as a better option than Toure and wanted to get some new blood in.

It's extremely worrying at the moment, it's actually come to everybody's realisation over this summer that Arsenal don't have any money whatsoever. If the £25m from Ade isn't fully re-invested into the team then I will be very alarmed.

Unless you or the press have seen the balance sheets how do you know this? Did we not spend money before Ade was sold?

I remember last season Arsenal fans saying he wasn't injured for a majority of those games and people were questioning whether he had fallen out with Wenger.

To be fair he will miss a far chunk of this season too, with the ACoN

He certainly fell out with Gallas.
