**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

aye how much was that Vermaelen guy?

£10m

Why would Arsenal sell Ade if it wasn't for the money? He didn't want to leave. Pretty obvious that Arsenal needed the money!

Just like he didn't want to leave last season? Or perhaps Wenger wanted to sell him as he wanted to do something different upfront this season? I can't believe you have spent virtually the whole thread saying you wanted rid, and now he has gone it's almost like you didn't want him to go!

I don't want Toure to leave, far from it. But if they can get Hangeland in to replace him, it wouldn't be so bad, maybe go as far as it would be better for Arsenal. But, if Arsenal do sell him, who's to say they will replace him at all?

Don't get me wrong I couldn't wait to see the back of him, I just want to make sure that Arsenal invest the money in the squad so they're capable of competing for every honour this season. Success is so close but it seems so far away. That £25m could ensure Arsenal are competitive in the league and Europe, I just worry as Wenger said he'd try and make all transfers before pre season and he hasn't made any yet besides Verm.

Also, the transfer window is ridiculous inflated and while I totally agree with not wanting to pay too much for players, Wenger is going to have to bite the bullet this season and just spend a few million too much on some important players, surely last summer/last year proved that this squad is too thin to compete all year long (injuries etc) at the top level, also the purchase and impact of Arshavin shows just how easy it is to improve a team with just one big player, imagine adding 2 more

Edit - My main annoyance is just how close the squad is to being very, very good yet Wenger doesn't seem to acknowledge this. Denilson is good, so is Song, but they're just not ready for full season's at a top 4 team and Wenger should see this too, surely a great CM would be a benefit to Denilson and Song, somebody to learn from etc.

Another Edit - Also, it's annoying that Wenger doesn't seem to want to let go of players like Eboue, Senderos and Silvestre, I think they need to go because as long as they're at the club Wenger is going to feel some responsibility to play them and that's just not going to end well ..

I'm pretty sure Fulham have already said Hangeland isnt for sale at any price. If Toure only goes for 12 i'd imagine we'd have to offer that or more for him which is kind of besides the point.

Yeah, im sure when you go for a job, money is the last thing on your mind . Besides, players often turn down deals with British clubs offering huge wages in order to go to clubs they would rather play for.
Wow, what an obscure and twisted view to have... yeah, I can just see the similarities between working as a struggling average worker who pays bills, has kids and a mortgage, and being a premier league footballer  Oh you know, £20-25k average per YEAR, to £50-100k per WEEK... you know I dont even know why it needs mentioning

I highly doubt he was forced out of the club ...he had been pretty much sulking all season which is a high indication that someone wants to leave and Citys moneybags were prepared to cough up. The summer before it was all talk about a move to Milan so the writing was on the wall it was just a matter of when. He's one of the those players who needs to be loved also i think and you got the impression he felt hugely unappreciated which was largely his own doing anyway re the Milan manouvre.

I remember before we bought him there were doubts about his personality because he had a rather bitter fall out with Monaco also and some were questioning the signing. People soon forgot however after he had that stellar first season.

Wouldn't surprise if he has a terrific first season for City he has all the ability in the world when he wants it, unfortunately for us he looked disinterested the majority of the last season.

But how do we know he's not about to sign a CM? Other than what rumours are in the Media? He's unlikely to say I want to sign x,y,z players as it will only raise prices. If he was to come out and say I need a CM, and then wasn't able to get one, does that not suggest to the players already at the club he doesn't think they are good enough?

It's been implied Senderos will be leaving. Eboue should stay as backup for the RB slot. Silvestre is actually growing his hair and will be sold to Man City as 'Solo Soure' for £15m.

Yup, we rejected a bid last season for him, from Redknapp, and we rejected the rumor of £10m+Senderos for him, too.

I hope this Crouch thing finishes quickly, if he signs for us, good, but if he signs for Spurs, we're screwed for who we go for that is proven, lol.

Yeah, that is the only problem. The prices being linked are less than it would cost to replace him, properly.

Denilson is not good lol, he doesn't have the physique to play DM for a start.... the number of times he was easily bullied by other teams in the air and on the ground last season was unbelievable and his passing on average is pretty poor never mind his skyscraper shots from 30yards out which he seems to love.

Song is on the improve especially in the trailing months of last season so it will be interesting to see how he fares this season.

We need to keep Silvestre if possible and i'd even keep Senderos right now as he is still a decent backup and who knows how his stint in Milan might have helped.

Eboue should be been sent to the glue factory seasons ago, i'd take a box of walkers crisps for him.

Yeah, I have no idea if he is or isn't going to sign somebody, just getting increasingly agitated I suppose, but it's obviously Wenger's style to wait until 11:30pm on the deadline day just to save £250,000 on a player, I just thought it'd make more sense to get the dealings done early so the players can form some understandings in pre-season etc. but in reality, as long as the squad is strengthened I'm happy.

Eboue should stay as back-up in my opinion, but he's repeatedly said he doesn't want to be a back-up RB and that's perfectly understandable, Arsene should respect this and let him play elsewhere as first choice before his career turns into even more of a mess. That obviously means there's another spot which doesn't have adequate cover

You're exactly right, Denilson isn't a DM, he never was, he's been forced to play there because Arsene sold all the DM's, he is supposed to be a creative CM, not a hard working tackler and that's why he's been shown in a bad light, he's playing out of position. Also, his passing is not average and while I don't like bringing it up, his stats are unbelievably good for somebody his age playing in the toughest league in the world. He's just been exposed far too quickly, it's Wenger's fault for not buying a real DM, not Denilson's ..

/QUOTE]

Because Mascherano, the best DM in the world at the mo, is such a towering hulk of a man?

Denilson has great potential. His passing is good, and he keeps the game ticking over, as well as playing well positionally. Admittedly he doesn't win that high a proportion of tackles, but he reads the game very well and intercepts a lot. As he grows stronger, which he will, he will be a very good player.

EDIT: As above, Denilson would ideally be playing alongside somebody like Song - he's not a defensive midfielder per se, he's a defensively minded creative midfielder, similar to Carrick.

I'm not sure why Bent gets such a raw deal from spuds fans...was he top scorer last season?

he seems to have a knack for scoring certainly ahead of keane and the russian at spurs so no idea why he seems to be so far down the pecking order

I would welcome him in red and white stripes this coming season, goalscorers are so important and it just seems a mystery why you would part with one so quickly?

do people still worry about his initial fee and think he wasnt worth it?

be interesting to see if we get this striker from bordeaux and if bruce then drops his interest in Bent. spurs dont seem that keen to make a deal happen, which is strange given their interest in at least 2 strikers at the moment
Bent will score goals but he has very little to his game which is annoying. He's a big powerful lad with bags of pace but he just doesn't use it. Any 50/50 ball he will lose out every single time, he can't hold the ball up and he's crap in the air. He can't go past and beat a man either.... just a very average footballer.

He'll do well for any team that will build it around him like Charlton did. Thing is this isn't good enough for a team wanting to be playing in Europe or cracking the Top 4.
