Latest GT5 info

Point remains on a technical level and ive said this before to date no other console racing game has 16 cars, 60 frames, in 720p.
GT5P manages that and does it at a RESOLUTION 1.5x greater than 720p

Thing about Gran Turismo 5: Prologue is that the cars and interiors looked great, the rest of the game looked bland.

It was pretty decent in places, I put tracks like Eiger having terrible scenery down to dev time and priorities..

Although I must admit that having 1.5x the 'resolution' just doesn't impress me as much as the shaders and the lighting.. I don't think the texture resolution is sufficient to warrant 1080p, I bet there is no difference between 720p and 1080p in terms of texture resolution and geometry which puts it purely down to the fill rate of the GPU, which really isn't adding much considering the AA drops to 2x at 1280*1080..

I wonder how many people have ever driven a race car or at least a fast car on a track? Many games such as NFS, grid etc give a false sense of speed that in real life doesnt exist, thats why many sim games look slow as they are actually more realistic, its all realtive in the end. The video has been chopped around quite a bit aswell prob will be better to get proper capture footage from IGN/1UP.

It just feels lonely watching the vid. The AI are perfect so if you make a mistake, that's it unless you have a faster car. It becomes a chore to absolutely perfect and win a race when one small mistake can throw it away. Only F1 has that degree of skill in real world racing, most other disciplines are a bit more exciting and at least most of the field swap places often during a race. Sure other games give a false sense of speed, but then those are games that aren't sims anyway. Forza 2 had it spot on IMO.

I hope we see some more videos soon that will change my opinion but in essence, the core GT game hasn't changed so I don't think it will be for me. I don't have a PS3 and like a few others, was reserving my purchase until GT showed up. Unsure if I will go forward now.

Damage video:

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_gamescom_damages_in_gt5-8397_en.html

Looks like only certain cars will recieve damage. Odd.

I think the synopsis of Damage from all the info so far is pointing to these special 170 cars (probably Rally/Nascar etc) having damage etc, and the normal 830 cars not having damage..

The Subaru is obviously a Rally car with Co-driver, so guessing it will have damage, the Evo has no co-driver and looks stock with no damage, so it does (so far) seem this way..

Loving the replay graphics though, very very good reflections/lighting etc, a few odd shadows still, and obviously crash collision physics look a bit simple/non-existant, but the actual driving physics seem 'loose' and quite 'real' from a visual standpoint..

I'm sure more will be revealed, I wish PD would get on the case, and put people out of their miseries!

They are remarkable developers. I wish there was a similar team on the 360 to really push the system :(

Epic games with Unreal Engine  Gears of War 1/2 are still two of the best looking games I have seen on my 360. However without starting a flame war the best looking exclusives are on the PS3.

PD have always produced amazing visuals on the playstation platform so I get your point. I am still amazed at how good GT PSP looks. I will probably end up getting it for my PSP to have something to play until GT5 (other than Forza 3 of course)

faithfully reproducing the behavior of electric cars, i.e. Prius, Insight, hybrid cars and the latest Tesla

Wow, already lost me at this point...

Why would I want to play what is supposed to be the pinnacle of racing simulation games in a hybrid electric taxi?

Why are they even bothering with cars that nobody would want to drive?

You ever played GT before, part of the fun is racing around in lame cars just for a giggle, then upgrading them to something daft and chase after sports cars! I want there to be a liana to race round the Top gear test track see if i can beat the stig ( i wont)

It'll probably be for qualification races. I'd guess the electric cars would be the new lowest tier cars in the game.

IGN editor Ryan Clements entered the GamesCom show floor this morning, and headed straight for the Gran Turismo booth. After admiring the game’s new damage features, he got to talk with Kazunori Yamauchi and asked him to clarify some of the questions that were raised yesterday. As many expected, not all of the cars in the game will feature damage:

“The next detail Kazunori touched on was regarding damage models. I can confirm that not every car in Gran Turismo 5 will sport damage models — it will only be select sets. However, Kazunori has yet to decide on a finalized list of featured car types for damage support.”

That’s consistent with Yamauchi’s previous comments, when he mentioned that only “race cars” could be damaged in the game. Unfortunately, he also confirmed that Porsche have chosen not to join the Gran Turismo series, signing an “exclusive arrangement” with other parties. That’s strange, though, because we already know that Porsche’s cars will be in both the upcoming Forza 3 and Need for Speed: Shift - games made by two different publishers. It looks like the mystery surrounding Porsche and their involvement (or lack thereof) with the GT series will continue to puzzle us fans for quite some time. Perhaps, one day, we will learn the full story…

That damage video looked terrible, the car didn't seem like it was interacting with the scenery at all.
