Catalyst 9.8 :)

I can vouch for Company of Heroes!
On 9.6 and 9.7 crashed at the most important of times in multi player

Now it runs like a dream :D

WOOP!

yeah....its just im always suspicious of the ability of drivers to suddenly, miraculously improve your framerates across a wide range of games, say 10%+ accross the board, unless its a specific bug fix peculiar to that range of cards.

I think once you've fine tuned your rig, the only way to really see a meaningful improvement is to buy a faster card....

Drivers are what 'drive' the hardware. The more they work on the drivers the more they get to know what works best for different games and different GPUs.

It's entirely feasible that drives can give hardware such performance increases.

Sometimes earlier methods of getting things done are bettered and made more efficient. It's just the way things are. It's basically re-programming the way the GPU deals with tasks on a per application basis.

Take the PS2 for example. Its current titles are far better looking graphically than its launch titles. It's because devs have optimised code running on the hardware. It's not quite the same situation, but it's still along the same lines.

haha you're asking that everywhere, I doubt many people have tried that here are you looking @ buying that card or something?

No i am comparing mate, my card didnt seem to run at good speeds on my old rig. Just wanted to know peoples average fps. i get 140 to 150 fps on average online sometimes going to 200 briefly on 1600x1200 on stock.

What fps are people getting on average on call of duty 5 WaW on single player and online with these drivers and a 4870 x2?

I have my FPS capped at 60 and at 1920x1200, 4xAA, max settings and adaptive AA enabled its almost constantly 60 FPS. FPS does drop a little in the centre of artillery strikes but what GFX card doesn't?
