****The Playstation 3 Slim Thread****

Got a new Slim earlier as well! Can't believe how much better it looks in real life. It looks about 20 times better than in photos. The white lights on the buttons etc look awesome.

Stupid question - would I expect a Backup/Restore to restore all my media and games (including demos and saves) back how they were?

No and that's pants. For some reason, the PS3 only stores "Album" details on the PS3 and it isn't backed up or copied.

Yea I noticed that non of my games or game data was actually backed up, pretty annoying as I had tons of DLC downloaded.
If I had known that before buying the Slim in all honesty I probably wouldnt have bothered - I have no idea what DLC I have and will have to trawl through my 168 downloads in my history to do that and then start every game to get the updates and compulsory installs out of the way...

Anyone think of a better way?

Then to fix all the albums :/. Not impressed...
My restore did not restore any of my messages. Is that normal?

My chat rooms are still there, just no messages. I did get a warning about some content not being copied if I restore on another PS3, but I did not know what would be excluded.

I know if you restore to the same PS3 your DLC and Game data stays.

Re: Your music problem. I though the PS3 reads standard ID3 tags from MP3s, so if your albums are titled correctly it should work?

how do you transfer your account details , do you have to deactivate the fat and then just sign in on the slim ?

do you have to make a new friends list or is that all on your online account?

cheers

thanks rp , i take it you are the new owner of the slim , how are you finding it , was it worth the upgrade from a fat ps3?

Chatting to people on MSN and reading forums, I have turned it on but done next to nothing on it in the last 2 hours. BUT in 2 hours on XMB on a mildly warm London evening has not made fans kick in. My fat would have about 1.5 hours ago :)

I like it, a few things I am unsure about, but they are more Firmware 3.0 changes, so I would have got them on my fat anyway.

Also me (and others) have learnt the hard way what the backup utility means when it says "some content will not be copied back if you restore to another PS3 system" :) No messages, no DLC, no Game installs and no copy protected saves by the sound of it. If it at least said this in the backup it would have been good but it didn't. I only lost messages as I deleted all DLC and game saves to make my backup file small (527mb!!).

I am off to fiddle with all the new settings, try out an animated theme, and then maybe watch Transformers on Blu-Ray without fans kicking in (whilst still keeping a watchful eye on this thread :) )

Your friends list should be linked to your PSN ID so thats held remotely - the rest of what I did was to backup via the Backup Utility but also saved game saves, music, videos and photos seperately aswell. Just remember to sync your trophies too...

One thing I wish the XMB had was the ability to save a folder of game saves (like you can with albums) - had to do each one seperately and when something like FIFA has 30 saves its kinda annoying...

I've got my old man tempted to pick up a slim for blu-ray purposes. Set up my phat 80gb on some surround sound 5.1 speakers and the DTS blew us away. He was going to get a stand alone blu-ray player after that but I've pretty much convinced him to roll with the slim. Only thing is though, does anyone know if the phat ps3 is now going to go down in price any time soon?

They'll be dirt cheap second hand with all the strange folk that swap their fat one for a slim.

People are happy with their purchases and probably do not appreciate your pathetic name calling.

Anyone recall how to turn off the scrolling info in the top right hand corner (latest PS3 news etc?). It is on one of my accounts and I can;t recall how to turn it off.

pressing triangle when highlighting the 'information board' option used to do the trick, but that seems to have disappeared. i'm sure it was under the network icon before v3.0?
