Derren Brown - outdone himself this time?

One fact, plain and simple: Derren Brown didn't predict the lottery tonight. There's a 13 million to one chance of me doing it, a 13 million to one chance of you doing it, and (believe it or not!!!) a 13 million to one chance of DB doing it.

Whatever he did, whatever you (think) you saw, and whatever he says or does on Friday, this fact remains true.

Was there any break before the numbers were revealed, even a cut to a zoomed in screen? I think there was, but can't quite remember. If so, then my idea is:

There are ~14million combinations with exactly 6 numbers correct. However there will be far fewer where he has to get 5 out of 6 (can't remember the maths). Whatever this number is, it is probably possible to record a separate 'ball revealing' shot for each one over the duration of a year if you're really really dedicated (he claims this is a year's work). In this case when it cuts to the zoomed shot the appropriate recording is selected and broadcast.

Otherwise, something with mirrors and a split screen.

It was a variant on the vault trick: The prediction was pre-prepared and supposedly held in a tamper-proof spot (in this case, in plain view). The talk about him not being allowed to show them ahead of times for legal reasons was pure showman spiel.

Note the jerky camera work throughout the draw. This was to cover up the fact that some clever visual trickery was employed to disguise the fact that the prediction podium was swapped out for one with the right numbers as the real balls fell out.

anyone keep seeing birght white messages flashing up on the channel 4 show now?

sure i just saw 'fight'

He did this on a previous show, I think it was intended to make you forget the entire thing, much like he did with the live audience who were interviewed after yet could not remember a thing.

cos it would boost his profile.

TBH you have a point about this, he will get more Publicity from this since his las show where he played Russian Rouelette so he would probably make more money then he could ever make from the lottery but still I find it hard to believe anyone can predict those numbers.

QFE.

He is an illusionist - and as you saw tonight - a very good one :)

Impressive!

Will be very interesting to see how he did that.

Balls were in view at all times *snigger*, movement of them matched the movement of the camera, he touched the balls afterwards *snigger* and the numbers moved as expected...

Yup - I'm impressed with this.

EPIC FAIL!!!

Going to be a boring show on Friday, one hour of Derren Brown telling us that he had millions of pre-recorded reveals.

He said right at the start the BBC by law have to show the winning numbers first.

This isn't relevant. He was making a prediction, so he had every right to reveal his prediction before the numbers were drawn. He could easily have done so!

But then it would have been an actual prediction. Which it wasn't. It was a TRICK.

I watched it live on my Freeview DTV card and I was watching BBC1 at the same time on my TV and he did indeed get the numbers correct and he was pretty much in sync. Only a few seconds betweeen him revealing the numbers and the draw.

Anyone who gets the correct numbers can be said to have predicted the numbers chosen, so, in a way, yes he did predict the lottery. How he did so, is a different matter.
