Are you 18-24 and unemployed?

Been working since I was thirteen and I've just turned 18 now, can't really imagine what it would be like not too, I think it would be nice sometimes cause I struggle to juggle college and work. I am very glad I have a job though, I definately couldn't accept money off my mum for anything if she offered.

But how are you going to internally promote, unless you expect to loose a large proportion of your upper management, or expand quite fast, which is unlikely at the moment for most companies?:)

Business is good at the moment :) better than 12 months ago, I have plans to take on another 10 - 15 people over the next 12 - 18 months..

Coming up to 21 now, never managed to get a job (not even Maccy D's :( ), currently studying at uni, not claiming. I'm planning to study a masters as the job market in the City is still really down.

Personally, I don't feel there's much of a future, economically-speaking, for this country. The way forward is either the US (in the short-term), or emerging economies in Asia.

Of course he hasn't had any success (no experience and unrelated degree) and seems to think he can do a job which requires 2+ years experience. This seems to be common of a lot of grads these days thinking they can just walk into their dream job... grr.

That's all very well but junior jobs all seem to be advertised as wanting 2+ years of experience (even before the recession), it's the catch 22, no experience, no job; no job, no experience...

That's ok for your business.:) However what about all the other businesses that are doing the same? Not all (very few I expect as we are apparently in a recession) are going to be expanding, even when the market picks up, especially at a rate big enough to satisfy the underemployed.:)

23, im on the Tesco graduate shelf stacking scheme. it's bril.

:p

I agree we are in for a good few years before the majority see any improvement on the current situation.

Off on a slight tangent here, but a lad I'm doing a website for said he got a grant to set up his own business.

I'm going to quiz him more about how he got it when I speak with him next, but was just wondering if anyone on here knew anything about it.

Seems like a young persons business start up scheme type thing from what he said anyway.

Princes Trust?

Full time at uni - part time working in a garden centre at weekends, its pretty fun actually and the people are ace :)

Luckily its a family owned garden centre so its quite relaxed, thus I can work days they don't even need me. Naturally though in the summer its immensely tiring and stressful.

Lucky enough to have done an internship as part of my degree, which got me full time employment during my final year of uni. Without 2 years in industry i would definitely be unemployed like everybody else. This situation is horrendous at the minute.

To the OP think that figure is much much higher. If you are on JSA/IS they ask you to go on training courses (if you dont go they cut your benefits~) .... while you are on those then you are "officialy" not unemplyed. Its total bull and they use it to cover their statstics.
I work for Housing Benefits in one of London Borough's and I can tell you amount of applications we get for benefits due to unemployment is increasing all the time.

I can tell you now as a single person, you're unlikely to be able to successfully claim HB due to landlord discrimination, with a major exception being the eastern boroughs.

Do you guys actually contact the landlords or just take whats on the tenancy agreement at face value?

I went A year with out work.

Im a qualified Plasterer and couldnt get a job in it after leaving college.

I now work at a petrol Station after Applying for many many jobs.
