What was before the Big Bang?

There must have been something, even if we don't understand it, there has to have been some form of energy involved to create the mass we see in our Universe. If it came from other dimensions where the hell did the other dimensions get the energy from? mind boggling.

Why does there have to have been something? Before the big bang there was no universe and therefore nowhere in which anything could exist.

If you really want to boggle your mind just think about the universe beyond the 100th cosmological decade. The big freeze is something that's got me somewhat puzzled at the moment. I mean if the universe does eventually decay to a point where there are not even lone protons floating around or even any form of radiation, would time itself continue to exist?

In fact maybe that's what happened before the last big bang that created the current universe. Or maybe that's just what they want us to think.

Urgh, it's far too late for thinking about such a complicated subject.

The universe, and all the matter within it, have all existed for infinity (time).

The big bang was probably the result of the universe having collapsed in on itself then re expanded. ie the universe existed before the big bang.

That's the theory I like and I'm sticking to it.

Thats the only way which sounds remotely logical in my head also. It might have been the case that the entire universe before it was swallowed by black holes formed from dying stars which in turn joined over billions upon billions of years, creating 1 big quantum singularity inside it. Im guessing when theres no more mass to devour, the force of ejecting matter becomes more than the force of injecting it, causing an explosion on an insane scale.

If I was a theorist I'd try and do the math to prove it, but I'm not hehe :P

People use this term a lot, or so I've just read in a long-ass webpage..."Cause and effect"

That kinda' fits with what people are currently saying, whether this is a constant, what was before this or rather what was placed to set it off.

Ugh, good night brain cells!

:o

Who says there was a big bang?

Ok a lot of scientists do, but its only a theory, and certain facts fit that theory, but there are other theories that could fit that facts.

how about all previous matter got sucked into black holes, then the eventual mavity of those black holes pulled eachother in until there was just the ultimate singularity then that created the big bang?

If time started with the big bang, there was no 'before'.

Disclaimer: I read this somewhere and liked the sound of it, I know nothing about anything really

Head scratching question of the day to finish off a lame Monday, if space & time began with the big bang then what was around before it, and how did the elements form to cause the big bang?

Time, is one thing but how did all this come about, the making of the whole entire universe.....that came from the big firework that is the ever expanding universe?

I thank you, and bid you good night.
Same could be said about the "Chicken & the Egg" theory... which one came first and if for example - the egg came first... what came before the egg? Another chicken? But what came before the chicken? Another egg?

/Time Paradox... :p
