What was before the Big Bang?

2 universes a positive and a negative, linked by black holes leaking into each other- but only 1 way at a time.

So when 1 contracts into a singularity it explodes out creating the other.

that make sense?? nah

Ask a photon from the cosmic background radiation (if only you can catch the thing). It was there only an instant ago from its own point of view.

So like a hot curry? sucked in one end, explodes out the other?

I like it! :D

I think due to the fact the universe is supposedly made mostly of dark matter then it is probable the current universe was created from this. Perhaps there was a dense enough clump of the stuff at one point that it created the big bang.

Before dark matter i believe there was either nothing OR an extremely old universe which could have created the big bang by collapsing on itself.

Then theres also the fact that we could be one of many universes occupying an infinite amount of space in the same dimension, its just down to the fact that they are so far away we cannot detect them.

The Universe is supposedly the shape of a sphere due to the universe expanding outwards from where the supposed big bang is. Which in turn gives me the further idea we could be just part of a larger structure, a cog in the machine. Just think if bacteria had intelligence, the universe would be far more vast to them as opposed to ourselves.

yes thats right mavity gets weaker the further apart the things are, but it doesn't disappear it just get less & less. so eventually when the expansion stops expanding the gravitational pull between all the mass points in the universe will be at an all time low, but will still be there even as minute as it is will eventually over billions of years start to pull itself inwards.

i'm rubbish at explaining things so here's a link to the theory:

It's a nice theory, but is considered by many to be the least likely outcome. The fact that the expansion of the universe is speeding up and newly discovered dark matter/dark energy theories.

The Big Rip is said to be more likely than the big crunch. But the favourite theory, certainly from what I've read, is the 'Big Freeze'. It's much less exciting than the other theories, but certainly seems more likely given what we now know about the expansion of the universe.

yeah admittedly with dark matter discoveries it does seem less likely (still possible though). I just like it coz it brings everything in a full circle, and says there is no beginning or end - ouroboros, i just like the way this sounds, but you're right i think the big freeze actually does have more credence, but if the big freeze is the correct theory, then we have to go back and analyse the big bang and work out where all the matter came from originally etc, it creates more questions than it answers...not as rounding as the big crunch

Indeed, but that's the thing all this matter didn't come from anywhere. Before the big bang there was no matter, if there was anything at all it would have just been an infinitely dense and infinitely hot point of pure energy. As long as you remember the matter and energy are totally interchangeable, it starts to make (a little) more sense.

It's still mind boggling of course, but that's what I love about astro and quantum physics. I just wish I knew a lot more about it, but I'm (sloooowly) learning.

Yes if you think of before dark matter than it could mean there was nothing or everything existed at a single point. There was no "time" or other dimensions. It just was and this could be perceived as god. I hate thinking about this because it would take you back to the question "what is the meaning of life?". We will probably never know.

It was a different universe. It all went into a black hole, then exploded.
Eventually, we will all go into a black hole and it will all start again.
