I realliy can not see how Borderlands is getting so little votes... It is an such a unique game with unseen cell shaded graphics, i dont see how people can vote on expansions such as L4D2 seens as its not far off L4D1...

For the bazillionth time its not cell shaded :p. Well, not fully at least ;).

I agree it should have a fair few more votes, but the buggy net play on release really let the title down.

The online play is awful and after 20 hours, it got very repetitive and I just stopped playing. I will go back to it at some point, but game of the year? No chance, not even up there.
You can't advertise and sell a game as an online multiplayer and then not have dedicated servers :o It's a good job the single player was good, though far too easy, you just walk around with your big hairy sniper rifle, popping everything's bonce before it even gets over the horizon.
There were little niggles too like making you press enter and escape, not being able to scroll through mission text with the scroll wheel, it seemed like the pc version was a bit of an afterthought even though the devs kept telling us that it wouldn't be a rushed port and that it was going to be the best version.
So no, I don't think borderlands should have more votes, it shouldn't have half the votes it already has. It could have been great, as it is it's just good. Plenty of other games deserving of your vote. Of course that's just my opinion, but by god I'm going to hammer it home :D

Right so Borderlands can not advertise themselves as a online multiplater because they have no ded servers? So your saying MW2 is not a online multiplayer then? /Facepalm... Also not being able to scroll through mission text... wow... i forgot thats a valid reason for a game to not qualify lol... You say the game was easy... indeed it is not so challenging in some areas, but you say you have only played 20 hours which tells me you have not reached the 2nd Playthrough, in which your point is yet again invalid... Cheers

Since its release, one of the main talking points - alongside the guns - has been the cel shading technique used when the developers preferred their original concept artwork to that of a more realistic, polished method.

:D

Well i say unseen, as in, i have yet to see the same style of cell shading that has been used in Borderlands...

Out of all the cell shaded video games, id say they have all looked pretty basic compared...

My vote also goes to Borderlands.

As for the graphics: A very good idea to make the game stand out from a gazillion other shooters. If they'd have given it the 'normal' treatment, it possably would have sunk without anyone really doing a double-take to see what THAT was, and discovering the phenominal game underneath. Wise move, and very creative.

As for those graphics: Does anyone remember the game XIII?

Jet Set Radio, Prince Of Persia, No More Heroes and Crackdown all spring to mind (not to mention the upcoming Crackdown 2)

And that racing game on the PS2, Auto Modellista.

Indeed... however like i just said, they all seem pretty basic versions compared imo...

from your post it just looks like you're saying that people are overlooking the art direction of Borderlands and that it should be held in higher regard because of it's graphics, when cel-shading has all been done before on many, many other games.

What I'm saying is that it was sold to me primarily as an online game, it's the reason I bought it, I expected left 4 dead style co op and the online play is laughable.
To me it is a single player game with a broken online mode, not what I paid for, so it loses marks there.
I'm not saying that the little niggles are game breaking, I'm saying that these little things all add up and they show how little care and attention has been given the pc version. It's one step up from "press start".
Yes, a lot of these things can be fixed by editing the config files, but I don't expect to buy a new car and have to tinker under the hood before I even drive it off the forecourt.
No, I didn't get to the second playthrough, the game bored me before I could finish it.
Like I say, it's just my opinion, don't take it as a personal slight if you liked the game. I like the game too :D

Need for Speed Shift for me, it's been a long time since I've enjoyed a driving game so much, it may not be the sim the developers tried to put forward but it is a fantastically visceral experience.
