Why do PC users dislike Apple?

Is Final Cut not a video editor? What can you do in final cut that Sony Vegas cannot?

Final cut is one of the industry standards for video editing. Can you produce a hollywood blockbuster on Sony Vegas? Not so much I'm guessing. But you can on Final Cut Pro.

Well done on not taking the 10 seconds to google it and find that out yourself though.

See there it is again that OSX is better and easyer, why wont you explain why it is. If you know of something magical thing you can do with OSX that windows cannot, PLEASE let me know.

And your going back to looks again, macs all look the same, you CAN get better looking PC's/Laptops.

Would you spend as much money on a mc book pro if it came with windows 7?

That's why there's a thread running to several pages in Motors where they're all trying to talk you out of buying a sub that's a total piece of **** because it's got the highest RMS.

Haha! People who go by wattage on speakers do my ****** nut.

It's all about efficiency my friend. I could have a 200w speaker that goes louder than your 2000w speaker.

So no blockbuster films existed before OSX came along? Come on now these arguments are weak

Only because you're seemingly too dumb to understand the point.

You asked what it could do which Sony Vegas couldn't. I told you. You seemingly don't like that fact so chose to decide that I somehow said you can only make blockbuster films on a mac (go on, show me where I said that).

Now if you'd taken even seconds to do your research you'd have found what final cut was and if you knew anything about the subject have nominated avid as a comparison. Which would be valid, avid can run on windows and is a market leader in the same field. I know people who swear by one and won't touch the other. Neither product is definitely better but needing to run FCP is a fair reason to need a mac as Windows simply can't do it.

But seriously now, if you wanted to run Final cut (Holy crap at a grand) wouldn't you want a better machine to run it on? like a more powefull PC with better video and make it a hackintosh?

Now im sure that over in hollywood they use macs for this reason, infact i googled it and most do. So if your a hollywood film editor then get a mac. So what other people would NEED a mac?

Im dumb? Yet you still fail to tell me what sony vegas can do that final cut cannot! Just because hollywood use macs is there choice, i asked a question and you dodged it by calling me dumb

and your still saying you NEED a mac to run it. you DONT, hackintosh is getting better all the time if you need the OSX (Like if you want to learn xcode for a iPhone app etc. etc. etc.)

You get better hardware on a PC for your buck, the reason hollywood dont go around making hackintoshes is because apple say its naughty

Q: Can you name something that OSX can do that Windows cannot?

A: It can compile, run, and allow me to analyse programs using complex quantum mechanical codes, it allows me to interface - easily - with Linux based super computers, and allows me to visualise my data through modelling software which is all open source and free.

Also the person who said that mac users were all media studies people, and no scientists can be seen with them, I'm in my final year of my PhD in Physics, and currently in my office there are 3 macbook pros. Go to any internationally renowned science conference and you will see at least 50% of all scientists have mac's now. The Unix basis to the OS, and the easy of use UI and simplicity of the hardware itself is the big draw.

Just so you know, I also have two quad core windows 7 machines which I cannot run calculations on without installing Linux.

Delphi your not getting the point. You just said you can install linux on it. So why would you spend a lot more money to have OSX?

Wacking up the price of macs is how apple "sell" OSX withought acctually selling it because they are not aloud too.

Im sure if billy gates wasnt so greedy and OSX was aloud to be a standalone OS the sales for macs would drop a lot

I'm a grown up, I like both as I can see their individual merits and their weaknesses. When you grow up you realise that life is made up of shades of grey not black and white so can perhaps be objective without feeling the need to justify or uphold your own purchasing decision. I suspect people who can't see 2 sides need to grow up. ;)

Avid is more expensive I believe and that's a windows app, Adobe CS is almost as much - plenty people run that...

If you run FCP professionally you run it on a top line mac pro which costs £5k+ and is completely comparable with a similar spec HP or Dell workstation and far beyond any home brew hackintosh. Not all hollywood use Macs, plenty studios use Windows. HP are a popular choice too.

What's the difference, Sony Vegas is a nothing app with no presence in the industry. FCP or Avid are both industry standards which have more powerful features, greater compatibility and an army of experienced users out there you can hire.

I didn't point that out because, well, if you'd asked me how I knew there weren't fairies at the bottom of my garden I wouldn't feel the need to list the reasons then either.

Seems people on mac forums carn't say what Final cut pro can do that windows alternatives cannot (Altho i didnt read the hole thread, just flicked threw)

Edit just seen your post.

And now it seems like your not saying the mac is better because of this but that it depends if they want to use FC or the other you mentioned, but that does seem like a lame excuse to buy a mac over a pc does it not?

Sure if it's a company thing then fair enough. But are we not talking about personal uses here?

Which is what I said, Avid (a WINDOWS app) is a very good competitor to Final Cut Pro, better than Premier certainly, which in itself is a good competitor.

You actually want a good example, look more mundane. There is no good Mac or UNIX alternative to Visio, hence why I have a windows workstation at work.

I edited my post after i seen your post above that one.

So for the every day user it must be a "trend" thing to have a mac? My iPhone in part is, if it wasnt possible to jailbreak it tho, i wouldn't bother, id own a phone with android instead.

To me you just seem SO limited with mac/OSX. And it seems like a lot of money to not beable to do what you want with the product you payed for, like i payed for my phone, if i want custom sounds and apps that "apple" dont like then ill do it, because i payed for it, it's mine.

I'm arguing with the idea there's nothing you can't do on windows. If you prefer FCP then you buy a Mac, if you prefer Avid or whatever you buy a PC. Simple. For personal use it's exactly the same with different apps, I use Aperture for my photography, it was the reason I first got a Mac because I used it once and decided I needed it. I could likewise use Adobe Lightroom on a PC, but I don't like the app as much, not as inituitive to use IMO. So I have a Mac, because I can't run Aperture on a PC. That's a good reason to have one.

Neither platform is better, I've never claimed that. There are good and compelling reasons to use both, for some people Windows make sense, for others a Mac offers more.

That's why I don't understand the hatred these threads seem to generate - very few Mac users, certainly not me, will ever claim that OSX is perfect and the best option in every circumstance but Windows users tend to feel the need to claim it's rubbish in all circumstances. Which is false.

In this case the Mac is more flexible as you can install Windows legally into a VM or Boot Camp and use that to run Visio. There's no way of legally running OS X on non-Apple hardware.

Now you see, THAT is a reply to the topic, not what so called "fanboys" say like "Macs just work" YOU have a honest and decent reason to prefer one over the other depending on what YOU are doing.

It's seems that a lot of people just like to blab about there macs just working, and being good looking, thats why so much hate for them

Horses for courses. I actually like some of the limitations of Apple devices, I'm at a point where I need my home PC to work for me all the time, I can't afford to be tinkering and playing with things so Apple makes sense for me. I have an iphone because it syncs with my music in itunes without any fuss and it's got a good browsing experience and all the apps I need. For me their products generally make sense (the lack of bluetooth file transfer on the iphone does my head in sure, but nothing's perfect). I don't think that's true of everyone at all. Windows 7 (which is on my very expensive work Dell laptop) is a good OS, big improvement on Vista and it (with some exceptions) works well. I'm also a big believer in Unix systems in the right place.

I will never claim Apple products are always better, but I take issue with the view some people brought to the thread that they're always rubbish. It's a powerful platform which can do an awful lot.

Your joking right? It is not illegal to run OSX on a PC :P apple just dont like it, and they will probably never support it
