most pirated games 2009

How many people who pirate PC games download for themselves and how many get the game from someone else who has downloaded it, same question posed to consoles. Number skew solved.

My brother is a good example of this, skint student, he'll download the odd game, but wouldn't spend his money on one no matter what.

it can and has.

It's just you have to do it again every firm ware update as the whole of the firmware is replaced with each update..

And buy an expensive blu ray drive and blank blurays and dl 25 gb game files.
 
If the Xbox 360 people can be banned for playing pirates then where is the technology for banning PC Pirates IP addresses?

Surely the software companies must realise when there's multiple people playing online with the same password/serial. If this is the case then the software companies have no-one but themselves to blame.

Otherwise the future of PC gaming is STEAM .... impossible to pirate/copy.

...me , I've never pirated a game in my life ... STEAM IS the future of PC gaming and i don't have a problem with that ...


EDIT ..... just thought about the link from the OP .. could the info perhaps be total ********? ..... I mean torrent freak aren't exactly going to say they have had a **** year because that would affect their ILLEGAL(???) advertising so they basically hype it up as much as they can.

Where's the proof of these numbers TorrentFreak?

You can only play single player with most pirated PC games...

Or has this changed now days ??

When will you realize that if you constantly hand over £40+ per a game its justifying the publisher setting that price and so they can constantly hike the prices up in further years. Capitalism will take you for all you've got and then when its finished will **** on you and ask for more! As a software developer my company make hell of lot of profit off my work for the rather small amount of pay i get in return. A very large portion goes to the excutives and marketing who get paid a hell of a lot more for sitting in their leather excutive chairs!
So what, you think if no pirating went on the games would get cheaper?? How deluded can you get?!

BTW i havn't pirated as i'm waiting for the price to fall.

There are mp cracks and cracked servers for most.

MW2 itself had a crack that made use of a flaw for the first few days allowing pirates to play online ( on legit servers !).
 
I'm surprised it's not a higher number really.

It's funny how people think downloading is any different than stealing (DVD you wouldn’t steal a film video springs to mind :rolleyes:)

Most of the people I know download games and this it’s their right to do so because it's too expensive and the company deserves it and all that jazz. I agree a lot of it is overpriced but it’s not like that’s gonna help lowering the prices...

1. most pc games retail under £30
2. i don't know which product you develop, but obviously you may feel differently if it was being pirated and it would costs your slaary to go down or simply lose your job
3. so executives get more - I don't understand your point that is true of any company
4. "Capitalism will take you for all you've got" what is your point? Nobody is forcing you to buy anything, stealing is unjustifiable unless it's food and you are starving - we are talking about games here!

It is, it really comes down to the fact that mp component is what gives the game its longevity and for this id imagine people will have to buy a legit version, no cracked servers etc anymore.

In fact, there's no dedicated servers at all any more :D.

EDIT: You are wrong too, cracked servers exist for many many games on steam like l4d2, etcetc. Steam does nothing to stop cracked servers.
EDIT2: Looking around on a ''dodgy'' site I'm member of, there's a new working codmw2 crack for multiplayer.

except all they will have heard is "SP is great"

"mp is shockingly bad"

"the coop mode is good" iirc that can be done through hamachi with a pirate copy.

Same thing goes for any game though, the mp is what keeps people playing, unless its crap.
 
Interesting to see such a wide discrepancy in numbers on the PC, i.e. CoD:MW2 was downloaded more than twice as many times as the fifth most popular title. I commonly see it mentioned that pirates are just leeching everything they can get their hands on.

Also surprised to see Prototype was so popular.

Nothing solid that you can hold in your hands get taken away, no. But instead of cashing in £30-40 for a game they get nothing. If they get nothing they can’t make a product the next time. If in some years the majority of the games get pirated then how are they going to survive? Maybe they have to lower the prices then but really, how many are actually gonna start buying the games then when they have had it for free for so many years?

Yea so 'they already earn too much' well us who pay, pay the company's salaries so they can create this game for you to download for free. Fair?
Yes prices are too high. But that doesn’t mean I'm just going to screw that and pirate the stuff I want until they 'fix it'.
