Google employees given Google Nexus

So basically the HTC Bravo then :p

But then the Bravo is one step better than the N1/Milestone.

N1/Milestone Exist, Bravo doesnt... yet. So it makes sence for the Bravo to be better.

But then shortly after that something else better will come along.

And then shortly after that, something else.

etc, etc, etc.

At the moment its the N1 or the Milestone, and the Milestone had a Keyboard, while the N1 is like an iPhone. Its personal choice.

No because all phones would be cheaper without VAT and Taxes...

No, it IS irrelevant to the point, allow me to make it clearer for you:

The phone has a cost price in US dollars that is considerably less than its rivals as a starting point.

Note, Motorola Droid $599
HTC Hero $585
Iphone $805
Xperia x2 $605

In almost every case, you are paying more for a inferior specified product.

The closest thing to it in the UK, is the HD2, which is £499, which if you take into account that even if the phone gets stopped at customs the Nexus one is still £80 cheaper.

I've just had an N1 land on my desk. I'm underwhelmed to be honest. It's a nice device, very solid in the hand and nicely finished in metal.
I guess that because I'm already using an Android phone the OS didn't really leap out as being new or different even though it's a newer version.

I expect that you wouldn't be the only one. If you already own a Android device, this wouldn't be much of a upgrade. Its basically the same with slightly improved speed and new look media gallery which doesn't quite fit into the current Android UI design.

hasn't this been the case with the iPhone range so far from 2g -> 3G -> 3GS

I wonder what 4g will bring to the table? Hopefully a revolution rather than an evolution :)

Anybody with the N1, do you know of a good screen protector for it? Mine should be arriving today with any luck [Its with the delivery courier as we speak :D]

the same as me - milestone with nexus specs (+ additional app storage space) would be perfect. But I can hold off a little longer :)

Posted it in the Milestone thread but will do it here:

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/09/inbrics-m1-is-the-thinnest-android-slider-weve-seen-probably-e/

Inbrics M1
3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display
800MHz Samsung processor
3 megapixel camera,
front-facing VGA camera
16GB of built-in storage
microSD slot
QWERTY Keypad
Under half an inch think!

nah seen it, thats a last gen processor, want a newer cpu and it's also using 1.5/1.6 which I don't like :)

Including taxes its £415 [Using Natwest's exchange rate and what they've charged me] which is £85 cheaper than an HD2 and £300 less than the cheapest iPhone [Both based on play's pricing] :o Seems like good value to me..... Even if if it does look a bit cheap

An iPhone 3GS costs £450 on PAYG from Apple/O2 :p

Ok some more updates after a week of playing.

Upgrading from an iphone 2g is a HUUUUUUGE step up. I can see if you already have an andriod it wouldnt be THAT special just a nice speed increase.

This thing is so snappy its great. It played a 720 video back with no problems and no lag. OS is very solid but yea it does need a style overhaul imo. Sense would be awsome.

Camera is very good with the flash. The colour balance levels dont seem great but i think thats due to the OLED screen. But yes im impressed with the sharpness of it.

Screen is crisp and deep. Maybe the colours saturate a little bit too much but yes its good.

Web browser and other andriop apps on the market place seem way more useful to me than the ones on app store becuase the phone is a much more open platform. I love google goggles and a few of the weather widgets and RSS widgets.

I didnt like the defualt home screen so i changed the wallpaper and downloaded the HTC sense clock and weather animations and 100x better imo.

and yes multitasking is a god send! I dont think i could go back to apple right now

Played with a Nexus One today, quite disappointing really.

Vanilla Android (even 2.1) is quite boring and uninspired, the menu and scrolling was still not smooth despite the processor in it. The handset is surprisingly heavy and feels solid but totally let down by a retarded camera lense and a pointless scroll ball.

Overall I prefer the Hero. Roll on Xperia X10 or the HTC Bravo.

Awesome vid ^^^

Interesting, the scrolling is silky smooth on mine.... Before and after the unlocking and rooting.

I do like the look of the Bravo too..... ;)

Nexus One users complaining of touchscreen calibration, 3G connectivity issues

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/18/select-nexus-one-users-complaining-of-touchscreen-calibration-3/

As totally awesome and exciting as the Nexus One might be, with any new device there are bound to be some growing pains -- f'rinstance, you might have heard about issues with the phone's 3G connectivity. Well, Google has too (hell, our buddy Erick Tseng even addressed it on The Engadget Show yesterday) and while the cause is less than clear, the company assures us it's working feverishly to get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, that isn't the only problem newly minted Nexus One owners are noticing. According to a lively discussion on Google's Android forum, some folks are experiencing extreme touchscreen calibration issues after cold booting the phone -- problems that resolve themselves (temporarily) after putting the thing to sleep and then turning it back on. That said, the good folks at Google assure us they're on the case. If it turns out that it's a hardware problem, it'll be covered under your warranty. Software? They'll issue a patch for it. If your phone's having problems and you feel like joining the conversation, hit that source link.

Anyone else experienced this?

I think one of the things they're going to have to look at is a UI change. It's current design is very limiting when it comes to variation - I can see it incorporating multitasking and having a little triangle under the icon to show that an app is running - so switching between will be returning to the home menu and then clicking through to the running app - holds possibility but it's just going to all look the same...

Are you kidding me? Its the smoothest phone i have ever used easily. The handset is defantely not heavy my friend my iphone ways more. Scroll ball does not need to be there but its useful sometimes. Better to have it then not. Whats up with the camera lense?

This mobile sucks, its nothing impressive at all, HTC Hero is much better.

Eh? Any reasons for you thoughts? I got mine yesterday, and have been playing with it next to my housemates Hero, the Nexus is SO much faster, and the screen is SO much nicer, although the Hero does beat in some ways by the fact that the Nexus isn't working properly - I'm experiencing the lack of sensitivity at times, seems a bit intermittent but more critically I've got a dead red pixel - and this being OLED its dead for good :( so it's off to HTC for repair if they ever email me back :(

Still love it tho, and I just want it back, working as it should be :)
