Apple's January 27th Event

Location
Wi-Fi
Digital compass
Assisted GPS (Wi-Fi + 3G model)
Cellular (Wi-Fi + 3G model)

Makes sense I suppose. There's no real point in an non 3g model having a GPS device.

I assume they haven't mentioned a normal GPS device for the non 3g model because it doesn't have one.

Hmm I wouldn't mind trying one out in the store when they come out but I don't think I will buying. I have a PC, a Macbook and an iPhone. It doesn't look any more portable than the Macbook and it will do the same things as my iPhone so it doesn't fit into my lifestyle. But if I didn't have a iPhone and had some other phone and didn't have a Macbook, I would probably be more interested. ;)

The other thing which I think is a bit of a let down on it is that it could have had good functionality for taking things like notes. By that, I mean that you could hold it in one hand like a notepad/clipboard and write notes. However, it can only do this via the keyboard, which is not very practical and involves looking at the device.

If they had created a way to write onto the large screen of the device using your finger, then that would have been excellent. In comparison though, a stylus device would be better at that kind of task than the onscreen keyboard which is what it has.

Shame.

I do like what Apple have done with the device. Really do. But ultimately I feel they have:

Attacked netbooks but netbooks can do everything this can do (well, apart from gaming), use Flash, multitask, import pictures from cameras out-of-the-box etc., etc., etc.

Created a new product category that just doesn't fit in anywhere. Except for "Look at me i'm on my iPad" people.

Moved their App Store too front-and-centre for my tastes. I might want to run Firefox on that thing!

There will be a lot of apps which will turn this from a mediocre device into something practical and even more versatile than it already is.
It's either a poor device or very clever by Apple as I'm sure a lot of the work will be done by developers earning them even more money via iTunes store.
